I figured out what SMT stands for, it's an anagram of TMS - Too Much Spin - right? Nah just kidding, you can never have TMS.
After reading and researching many good reviews on www.freegolfinfo.com (shameless plug but it's for a free golf forum, and we can't have too many of those on our Favourites list!) I took the bait, and ordered up a set of SMT Durometer wedges 51, 55 and 59°, with Rifle Spinner 5.5's, built "to scale" to match my Mizuno T-Zoid irons 1° upright, ½" > standard. You didn't need to know that, just wanted to show off that I can do ° and ½ characters ...
Oh and Lamkin Crossline grips for the rubber enthusiasts amongst you.
They arrived Wednesday, I barely managed to throw the (unopened) box in the boot of my car while convincing golf_ghirl it was nobody but a lost soul looking for directions ...
Lunchtime, driving range, deep pile mats so not a bad place to test a wedge. Feel and balance of these is just right, I know where the clubhead is at all times - even it's not where I meant to put it! Tried a variety of shots with each, soft, hard, high, low, short, long, the majority went right where I was pointing, and there was some evidence of backspin especially with the 55 and 59!! Hitting off a raised platform onto a slight downslope so it was really tough to tell, but it sure looked that way.
Had a game booked for after work so I decided they deserved a proper tryout on the course, and I'm glad I did.
1st hole, par 3, 59° to a raised green from about 10 yards (airmailed the green), very soft landing and didn't roll more than a couple of feet from where it landed.
2nd hole, 130 out, elevated fairway. Took out the 51 (not enough club for the shot but I wanted to play with the wedges whenever I could), hit high and on line, 1st ball stopped plum dead where it landed. 2nd attempt sucked back 3-4 feet off the green!
3rd hole, 50 yards out (you should have seen the drive!), 55°, tugged it a little left but it spun to the right when it landed, birdie time!!!
After that I didn't get to hit a full shot with any of them because the driver (9° Spectrum/Evo R) decided it wanted to do all the work so I was either hitting 8/9 iron, or very short pitches into everything, but it gave me the chance to try some short stuff when I missed the greens (no I shouldn't be missing with 8/9 iron, that's one of the reasons I'm 11.8!).
51°? Need to work on it, it's lighter than my Cleveland 900 so I left a few short with it, either that or it was grabbing on the 2nd bounce. Just a case of dialling it in, but they were all tracking in the right direction at least.
55°? This worked from the off on everything - 2 bunkers (one greenside fried egg on a par 4 which I drove into!), 2 outs, 1 hole I came up 2" short of a chip in.
59°? Easier than my Wilson 60° (probably because it's set up with the "right" shaft and the "right" specs. for me), it lands very soft and stops almost immediately. I'd like to try it again on full shots but the rest of my game was "on" and I didn't leave myself many full shots for any of them.
Overall first impressions? WOW!! They're in the bag and they're staying there, even for a BIG tie on Monday night, which I am now looking forward to immensely. I'll get 2 more - maybe 3 - practice chances before then, and am confident I can dial them all in before Monday. And it's not every club which gives you that immediate confidence.
Thanks to the Shaun at Midas Golf (EXMAX on GM) - for his patience while I decided on shaft specs., the build quality of the finished product, and excellent customer service.
And apologies to Bob for not putting this in as a "Review" - I tried but the post didn't appear!

Good review GB. I'll be buying a wedge soon when I've sold the house and will also invest in some of the SMT irons - Shaun's selling them at silly money (low) for the quality.
Anyone seen the irons in the flesh or demo'd them?
Nice review, I'm an SMT fan too... :-)
Haven't the money at the mo for new wedge system but when I wear oout my clevelands, I know where I'll be looking...
 Are they forged or cast?
I don't know, and to be honest I don't care. It's how they play that's important to me, although I appreciate others have personal preferences.
Really interesting,so how do you do the half character?
SMT surely stands for, Sold My Taylormades.
Golf Bhoy, you're in denial, you're only posting this to keep your mind off last nights score, what was it again?
Type 171 while holding down the Alt key at the same time. Degree sign is Alt-248.
Actually I know what SMT really stands for.
And last night's score is for football forums, not golf forums. Thank you for your consideration.

 OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! (dangles fingers below chin!)
BTW, the Alt thing didn't work for me.
Are you keeping the Alt key depressed while typing the characters? You need to keep one finger on it while pressing ALL the following characters.
I work with computers so typing with more than one finger comes naturally to me ... (J/K)
I can type with more than one finger too, one on the right and one on the left. Still didn't work. The eggtimer flashes at each character.
What is the thing in brackets?
(J/K) = Just Kidding.
Not sure where the eggtimer's coming from ... is the NumLock light on? Try NumLock, and using the numeric keypad, not the numbers on the top line. Sorry I didn't realise they didn't work because I rarely if ever use them for aything other than punctuation.
Got it, I've never used the number pad before. Tried it without the NumLock lit and it bounced me out of Golfmagic and back to my homepage. What other handy shortcuts can you do with this?
I've a document at work with I think 280 options on it (it was a slow day at the office), but I remember the ones I use most often. I'll copy it and e-mail you if you want, unless you have the time and patience to DIY. Open up Notepad and fire away, save the results, you'll have your own.

Anybody within easy reach of Cumbernauld or Stirling who wants a hit at an SMT wedge, or a Spectrum driver with AccuFLEX Evolution shaft, e-mail me through the forum, and I'll try and hook up with you at a range (Uddingston, Kirkintilloch, Brucefields (lunchtime), Palaceriggs - I can get to any of them easily). I like to practice so it's no big sacrifice on my part!
One condition - do anything bad to the clubs, by accident or design, and accept liability for repair or replacement. These aren't demo clubs, they're mine.
I'm not a salesman so I won't be pushing you to buy anything. The equipment speaks for itself.

The Durometer weren't out when I bought a new set of wedges earlier in the year. I went for Eidolons in 52/56/60 also with 5.5 Spinners. They have some similarities to SMT wedges being cast from mild carbon steel, nickel plated and CNC machined. I'm similarly wowed by Eidolon and have since managed to cut 3 strokes from my handicap. These companies are leading the way in wedge quality.
