Purchasing a book called "Play Golf The Tiger Woods Way" by John Andrisani, when I was just starting out playing Golf at the age of 13 back in the early 2000's. Whatever ever you think of Tiger, the book is a great insight into his secrets and techniques. It has been a major inspiration and helped me to play to a single figure handicap the past few years. Tiger might want to give it a read and get back to his best!

My best ever purchase was my first annual membership fee for our Golf Society. At the age of 60 it introduced me to a group of great new friends all with the same interest and enthusiasm for golf as myself, with whom I now get to share 15 days of golf a year at different courses and a 4 day "golf tour" in Northumberland. £25 well spent!!

The purchase that has had the best effect on my game had been my GPS device.
With exact yardages there was no “perhaps it was further than I thought” – I got very realistic about just how far I could carry the ball and how far it would roll out. And armed with that info I recognised it’s all about hitting consistent distances. Which made me keep statistics to learn from. That made my practice far more specific. Which got me into course management. That allowed me to shoot lower scores. And with growing confidence I approached the game more positively and played even more consistently. Which made my distances and shot dispersion more accurate. And thus the GPS became all the more useful…and on and on it goes, because whilst I am getting older I’m also still getting better!

As a very shaky right handed putter, a left handed putter!

With a right handed grip I effectively putt backwards. Incredibly comfortable (and accurate) on short and medium length putts.

I'm surprised that I've never seen a Pro Golfer with putting problems giving it a try.

a putter i got for graduating high school

My first golf lessons which got me really excited about playing golf in the first place !

A REALLY big golfing umbrella.

A pair of golfing boots rather than shoes. They are ideal for winter play, warm, waterproof and high sided giving extra support and ensuring that socks don't get wet even in the longest grass.

My best ever purchase was the last two years holidays in the Belle Mare Plage resort,Mauritius, two golf courses with free golf thrown in, forget the beach and getting a tan, this WAS a holiday and a half

my best ever "purchase" was not a purchase at all. whilst playing with a friend, he was trying a second hand taylormade burner but didn't feel it suited him. He gave me a go, and I ripped one straight down the middle, for miles! Another go on the next hole and - same again! And again! "The pro at the local muni gave me this to try, I'm away for two weeks, keep using it and if it's still as good when I get back, I'll go with you and we can make him an offer"

During the two weeks, the pro shop burnt down! He told me to keep it for free despite my offer of payment, and it was the best driver I have ever had, draw, fade, straight, off the floor, no shot was a problem.

Unfortunately, fate played a cruel trick and a few years later, the club and all my others were stolen. To this day I still can't hit a fade off the tee and still pine for my beloved "freebie".

The best golf purchase I ever made was Dave Pelz book Short Game Bible. It really made me focus on 100 yards from the hole and continues to make a big difference in my game.

My best purchase was green fees at Nyeri Golf Club in Kenya. Walked up a long hill to the 6th tee. We were breathless and pulled out our drivers to drive into a valley. Asked the local caddy where to aim. He says look up and aim at the peak of Mt Kenya in the distance. The most incredible view etched in my memory. Suffice to say I cuffed my drive!

My best ever purchase - Mizuno MX100 irons
The first piece of golf equipment I actually bought (everything else was a mismatch of pieces given to me by friends), I couldn't believe the improvement. It took a couple of trips to the range to get used to them, but as soon as I was, they really brought on my love for the game!

My best ever purchase was when I changed from my fathers assortment of golf clubs and bought a second hand set of Pin Seekers from Roy Mason, the then professional at Goring and Streatly, for the princely sum of £19,in 1966, which I paid up at £1 per week. They were my pride and joy and really set me off playing golf. This was when I was stationed at RAF Benson, Oxon. I am 70 years of age now, still play to a reasonable handicap. (Bad golf is better than no golf)?

my best purchase has been the Hogan Edge irons that I still play with to this day.  They were brought from my aunty for £100, over 15years ago and got me from my first handicap of 30 down to my present handicap of 7, and also got me the ladies course record at my home club.

Like most people (probably) there are load of gadgets and gizmos lying around the house which are all promoted as THE thing to help my game. But probably my personal best purchases are not actually designed for golf.
When I turned forty my wife bought me a set of lessons with the most amazing pro and he turned my whole game around. I didn't buy that so can't claim it. However, one of the exercises he gave me was to hit against an old car tyre with a short iron so a tyre was duly acquired. This really helps with strengthening the forearms and squaring the club face at impact and is something you can do in the driveway at any time. Simple, but extremely effective. Ten minutes a day is easy to fit in, no-one is put out by me going to the range again and it works. It's also a lot cheaper than constantly buying buckets of balls when you don't actually know what you're swing should be like.
The second thing is a PowerBall gyroscope which I bought as a toy but is also great for strengthening the wrists and forearms and can be done anywhere.

BTW, the pro + the tyre brought me 3 competitions wins in my 40th year - life really did begin at 40!

When on holiday to disney a coiuple of years ago I spent a day dragging my son round half the shops in Orlando thinking i'd get a great deal on a new putter. Having not managed to fit it in the case I ended up having to post is which cost me a fortune on top of which when it arrived i had a letter accompanying it from customs teling me I had to pay duty as well. The putter never really worked and cost me twice what i could have got it for here but reminds me of a great holiday so in the bag it stays

My best purchase has been my estate sale clubs. I am new to the game. I have always been interested in the sport, but I did not take it up until last year when I learned of my University's discounted rate at our local club and when I was able to acquire a reasonably priced set of assorted clubs from an estate sale. I will be going to law school in the fall and I really want to improve on my game in the next three years because golf is not only a great way to relax, but it is also a great networking opportunity. I will continue to use my assorted clubs; they have been good to me. However, I will gladly accept a new set to help improve my game.

The thing cost a measly £50 and is still going strong today, making every round just that little bit easier, surely thats what its all about isn,t it?

My best ever purchase was a local raffle ticket. It won me a free lesson at my local course. I had always been cynical about golfing, though my brothers loved it, one lesson and I was hooked completely. I am still very much a novice but just love getting better. Its definitely not true that you cannot teach old dogs new tricks !!!

My best purchase was a Dunlop 3 iron from sports direct costing £8.47. It may be cheap but I can hit it long and straight much to the annoyance of my friends who. Have spent a pretty fortune on woods they can't even use!

My best golf purchase was my R11S driver I just got a few weeks ago for my birthday for sure. Best club I've ever swung!

My best ever golf purchase was last year the year I finally retired. Visiting a car boot I bought a set of golf clubs for £28. I bought it because I've wanted to play golf all my life but always saw it as something other people played. When a kind aquaintance agreed to take me to the local club where beginners were welcome I was hooked. OK so 28 quid doesn't buy the best equipment in the world it suits me I think it suits my friend too as it is a given he beats me every time buy the friendship and fresh air has been wonderful.

My best golf purchase was a pair of Nike molded football boots. What? football boots on a golf couse! Well no, let me explain. On the very first time of wearing the aforemention boots; the studs caught in the turf and I hyperextended my knee joint, football career over (when I say career, I mean saturday morning amateur league). So what to do with myself? "I think I'll give this golf malarky a bash" was one of the ideas running around in my head. Five years later and I spend every spare bit of time that I have, every spare penny that I have and every spare moment of thought on the most beautiful and frustrating game that is golf and I owe it all to those stupid looking red football boots.

Enjoyed reading these best ever purchases - thought at least I had to have a go. After a bit of thinking it has to be buying an extra day of work (costs me lots over the year!) specifically so I can dedicate a day to practice and play. Its the best thing I have ever done and if at all possible, I highly recommend it to everyone - we all work to long and live to short! Play more golf, work less. Hope my employer does not read this

Suffering with severe bone atrophy and having to give up golf.my wife suggested buying a golf buggie. The best purchase I ever made from not being able to make it up the first fairway I can now manage a full round.

My 2nd hand Ping Anser putter .. bought it for a tenner and have used it consistently... Everything else has been changed and replaced over time but this remains constant.

My best purchase was a holiday to Portugal for me and my son. He was only 7 at the time, but we played golf every day at the mini putt and the range. Since then, hes been hooked on golf ever since, and at 16 years of age he is now a 3 handicapper
12/03/2012 at 21:05
I recently had lessons with the club pro. I only had 3 lessons but I think he has shaved a good 6 or 7 shots off my round.

My best ever purchase was a second hand set of cheap clubs and bag for my son last year. It's got him off the computer and out onto the course every week. Its given us quality time, a time for father and son to talk, to laugh and to cry at how frustrating and yet how fantastic this game of ours is.

Yesterday on the 6th tee the head of his 3 wood, his favourite club, went flying further than his ball! It really is time he got a decent set. I'm left handed so these right handed clubs would be useless for me, so I'd give these clubs to him.
