Hi, I have been to Orlando a few times my last visit was in May. I would recommend the following courses that are not to far from were you are staying. Southern Dunes, Orange county National 2 courses, Celebration, Legends, and Dollar for Dollar Diamond Back is well worth a visit.

I hope this is of help and if you need any information please get in touch.

The Orlando Sentinel which you buy $1 has golf deals in them. Drop into places like Special Tee Golf and ask them if they can recommend any courses they have discount deals available. I will try to get a web site address for you for Orlando where you can book on line. The best advice I can give you is never accept the first price always ask what is their BEST rate it's amazing what you will save.

Spendev, I live in Florida and play golf in Orlando all the time. All the courses mentioned so far are worthwhile. Southern Dunes is a bit of a drive but well worth it. Orange County National is one of my favorite golf resorts in the state, two excellent courses, and extensive practice facilities.

Hawk's Landing and Falcons Fire are immaculately groomed resort courses, very playable. Not overly challenging, but fun.

I've written a ton of stuff about Florida and Orlando golf. In fact, I just wrote a story on how to save on green fees even in peak season. If you're interested, see it here: http://bit.ly/dv4mlU

Spendev, I'd probably go with Panther Lake. It's more of a parkland course while Crooked Cat is a links-style layout, American version, which really means the fairways are wider and the trees are fewer. You're probably more used to that style of course in Europe. Still, you couldn't go wrong with either. It's fairly easy to hook up with other golfers. Just tell the guy at the pro shop when you make your reservation you'd like some company. Good luck and have a blast -- don't forget their excellent practice facilities, especially if your son is yearning to learn the game.

Hi Spendev,

What sort of conditions were the courses in when you were in Orlando last month?

(especially Orange County National) PGA Q School Finals are due to be played there 1st-6th December

How did it go in Davenport? - I also stayed there in January 2009 at a mate's holiday home during the Orlando Golf Show

Would love to hear your comments

Regards

Chris

Hi all i played at orange county on the panther course,it was great condition surperb practice facilties its has a 360 degree drivin range well impressed, great customer service, i turned up with my young son (6) who had great time drivin buggy, and practicing in the bunkers, they joined me up with 2 locals who were really nice and we had a great time,we arrived just after ryder cup so they was'nt to happy i shot a 75, 3 over to take there money lol !! I also went down to southern dunes was'nt to impressed with that course, but to be fair they had just completley stripped there greens 6wks prior and was just startin to come back very sandy an slow though,Only managed the two rounds in all price were good at ocna i got twilight time 2.30 and it cost me $44 with big bucket practice balls well worth it also they put 4 bottles of water in the cold box for us,southern dunes bit more though $60 with small bucket balls and you had to buy drinks of the girl drivin round before they give you ice not so good. Also went to golfsmiths out an as im snake eyes iron player i thought i good save few quid buyin out there i managed to get 3 new 685 box wedges which were priced at $69 each but had $20 off at the time worked out at £32 each there sellin here at £65 an upwards here, golf gear is near enough on par with uk now so cant really save to much now, great stores though theres golf galaxy great store and dick's sporting good which sell every sport item going massive store nearly the size of our local tesco lol,all in all had a great time and wish had longer there but back to grind stone now and savin for next trip to scotland (june 06/11) playin gleneagles an st andrews cant wait !!!
