Do you have a certain type of Cleat that you buy for your shoes or do you just buy the one you like the look of when the time comes to replece them??

Please can we come up with a more down to earth name for these things. IMO "Cleats" is a really outdated and elitist way of describing something that you fit on a shoe. Could we use "studs" instead?

I know it's a bit stupid, but I think the word "cleats" harps back to a long lost era and we should update to a more appropriate word.

I always put metals spikes in my winter shoes, then I save the unused plastic soft spikes for spares in my summer shoes. I've just got a new pair of Icons and they came with the Champ Zarma's in them. Nice!!

I use champ spikes, stinger pro for winter, and I'm trying the Zarma for this summer, if we get one!

I'm with Crazyface, 'cleat' is a rubbish word that should be sent to Room 101 never to return.

I find Softspikes Black Widow are fine. The plain black ones.

I have usually used Champ Stingers in the Summer and Pro Stingers in the winter.

At the moment I am using Softspikes Pulsar as I got a good deal on them.

The new Champ Zarma may be the next choice, or the perhaps the Softspikes Black Widow Tour.

When my soft spikes wear out I shall replace them with Champ Stingers for summer and winter.

Football boots have studs in them - you wouldn't call them "spikes". Golf shoes have spikes, or soft spikes - you wouldn't call them "studs".

Cleats is a generic word for "!the bits that stick out of the bottom of sports shoes to help with grip" and so cover both studs and spikes - so why not keep the efficient word that covers both terms and stop using the more specific terms?

As for what is a good spike, anything that actually has a spike is a good place to start, anything containing the word "soft" or is based upon the idea of a "soft spike" is rubbish, especially the crap that adidas peddle in all of their shoes, and which you can't change due to their proprietory 'PINS' system.
