Putting links into your posts - PLEASE READ

04/11/2011 at 14:41

Original post: I use Opera and have been unable to use Links since the change, is it just Opera?? or are Links now totally off the menu??

EDIT

Hello everyone - Alex here. Just going to edit this opening post so people don't have to trawl the thread to find it. Here's how you put links in a post:

  1. Write the text you want to turn into a link.
  2. Highlight the text you want to turn into a link.
  3. Click the blue link icon (just to the right of the smiley face).
  4. Enter the link in the pop-up box next to "Link URL".
  5. Click "Update"
  6. Voila!

DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE SECOND BOX ("TITLE")

I don't know why this is. I will find out if you're really that bothered, but it's best to just ignore it.

Thanks for listening,
Alex

AP. Sorry but Links do not work as they used to do as you say in the Blinded Golfer thread!! in Opera the two Link signs in the top row are not highlighted, clicking on them does no good!!

04/11/2011 at 14:54

Your link in the blinded golfer thread works for me.

04/11/2011 at 14:58

Dan AP did that after I failed with mine, I just put the URL there..

04/11/2011 at 15:41

Same in Firefox.

However, if you highlight some text and click the link button you can put the url in and click OK.

04/11/2011 at 17:51

Correct - you now have to highlight the text you wish to hyperlink and then the linkey thingy lights up.

Click on it and insert the url - click insert - done!

Well I'm glad that's been sorted. I was worried about your blood pressure MTP

Well, its not really sorted is it. The functionality is still broke its just that we've found a workround.

Tell me more, Clonski.

The reason it happened in the Steve Williams thread was because I edited it in the text field but didn't edit the actual URL. I could have written anything and it still would have gone through to the BBC story. Does that make sense?

It is rubbish, how the heck is anyone supposed to work out that you highlight the text first???

Even an IT muppet like me understands that you click on the chainlink icon to insert a url link, but here on this forum you have to magically work out that you need to highlight the text first. Ludicrous.

Just for the record, Pasty, I use three other forums and it's the same system on all of them.

Has Ap or anybody else in the position of power on this Forum not noticed how many of these-- many are floating around, some people seem to be able to link OK the rest of us is stuffed, IS SOMEBODY GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!

14/11/2011 at 23:05

It doesn't work in Chrome either. Even with the stupid highlight nonsense.

MTP - I'm actually on holiday and have been since last Thursday. (I'm sure I'll still get stick though.) I don't know why anyone else hasn't picked up on this.

I don't know the problem because I'm not a techy. It seems to be working fine for me. Are you doing it like this?

  1. You write something.
  2. Highlight what you've written.
  3. Click the blue link button.
  4. Enter the link in the pop-up box next to "Link URL".
  5. Click "Update"
  6. Voila!
