Bunker play tips

Posted: 11 May 2007
by GolfMagic

For bunker play you usually need the lofted 'scoring' clubs, with 'flange' or 'bounce' moulded behind the clubface, clubs developed specifically for escaping from sand bunkers. There's a real technique to bunker play and over the years we've had a succession of different instruction ideas. I'm sure you'll find at least one to suit you and make bunker induced frustration a thing of the past.

 The Masterclasses

No. 11 Nipping ball from bunker
Played correctly the ball will squirt forward, pitch and check up by the hole.
No. 12 Splash the sand, not the ball
Playing from the bunker can strike terror in golfers, but it needn't...
No.13 Unplug that lie!
Frustration = A plugged or poached egg lie in a bunker.
No. 14 Downslope in a bunker
"It's obvious. You take your stance with weight on the left (facing down the slope) and swing along the line of the slope. Pfft! It comes out. Okay?"
No. 15 Upslope in a bunker
Escaping from an upslope in sand is a good break and probably the easiest bunker shot you'll take-on.
