De Vere Slaley Hall, the hotel which has hosted top European Tour events in recent years has introduced high-tec equipment to help visiting golfers improve their swings.
The Northumberland home to two championship courses, is using a Golf Analysis System for Professionals (GASP) to enable golfers to eliminate mistakes from their play.
And if you’re a regular pupil in the hands of a PGA professional, you’ll spot that ‘GASP’ is also used to identify four key points when addressing a golf ball – Grip, Aim, Stance and Posture.
The equipment comprises two digital cameras which pick up a pupil’s swing from different angles. The images are transferred to a laptop computer and can be projected on to a screen, enabling instructors to highlight faults and make suggestions for improvement.
An interactive function also enables the teacher, using graphics to demonstrate on-screen how a swing should look and make adjustments. The system also has the capability for golfers to compare themselves to stars like Tiger Woods – or merely their own playing companions.
Gordon Robinson, head teaching pro at De Vere Slaley Hall, says: "GASP is a great system and we’re delighted to be able to offer it to our members and visitors to the hotel.
"Not only does the equipment add value and interest to golf lessons, but it also creates a sense of fun and even competition for our players. We’ve already had a great response from those that have sampled it.
Lessons can be recorded onto a CD-Rom and purchased by the golfer so they can even develop their skills at home. One benefit of this is that pupils can then compare past efforts with their current ability to see how far they have progressed.
