Woods, who every year competes in the Dubai Desert Classic, has unveiled plans for the destination to become home to his first ever signature course.
Scheduled for completion in late 2009, the 'Al Ruwaya' resort, developed by Tatweer will include a 7,700 yard, par 72 championship course complete with dramatic elevation changes, lush landscaping and stunning water features.
Plans are also afoot to build a professionally-staffed golf academy, a 60,000-square-foot clubhouse, an 80-suite boutique hotel for VIP guests, 300 luxury villas and 20 mansions on the 25.3 million sq ft site.
"My goal is to provide a unique collection of amazing golf courses all over the world that represent what I love about golf," commented Woods who launched Tiger Woods Design in early November 2006.
Making a dedicated trip to Dubai to showcase his first golf project he spoke of his desire to “transform a desert terrain into a world-class golf course” and be involved at every level of the project from the detailed layout of each hole, to the Mediterranean architecture, to the top-line gym equipment in the clubhouse.
