Woods wins Tiger Challenge with new ball

Tiger Woods had two new pieces in his arsenal when he won his own Target World Challenge title by seven strokes at the weekend.

He used the new Nike ONE Platinum ball with the 'power transfer technology that Nike has also introduced into its One Black balls. Its thick polymer is located inside the mantle layer, to increase ball speed and generate power for a wider range of clubs in the bag.

Another newcomer to Woods' bag is the 19-degree SasQuatch square-headed metal that helped him produce four rounds in the 60s including a second round10-under-par course record 66.

He also used Nike SasQuatch (SQ) Tour driver, 15-degree SQ2 fairway wood, Nike forged blades and Nike PC (46 degree) and SV Tour (60) wedges.

Titleist prov1 ball
Adam Scott

Titleist has once again emerged as the No.1 golf ball on pro circuits around the world. Using the Pro V1 or ProV1x balls players achieve another impressive tally of 169 victories during 2007. Since the introduction of the Pro V1 in 2000, it has claimed more than 1,000 champions worldwide.

The Pro V1 or Pro V1x registered five times more victories on the European Tour than its nearest rival, including Open champion Padraig Harrington, who used the ProV1x to win at Carnoustie and Adam Scott. Its nearest competitor had six titles.

Titleist claims that more than half of the top 50 money winners on the 2007 PGA TOUR, including Masters champion Zach Johnson and US Open winner Angel Cabrera used Titleist balls.

They also say their players earned more than five times more money worldwide($342,203,366) than the nearest competitor, while claiming 16 wins on the LPGA Tour, 19 on the Nationwide and 60 wins across in Asia, Australasia, Canada, Japan and South Africa. Over 20,700 Tour players around the world chose Titleist compared to 2,521 for their nearest competitior.

Yes golf putters
James Kingston (right0 with Wayne Farrell

James Kingston (42) winner of the second oldest golf tournament in the world - the South African Airways Open - converted to a Yes! Golf Callie putter only a few weeks before winning the title.

He used it in Madrid to shoot a course record and kept it in his bag to claim his home national title with a little help from Wayne Farrell the Yes! Golf distributor who reinforced some of the techniques Kingston had learned from C-groove inventor Harold Swash.

"We spent some time together just focusing on his putting,” explains Farrell. “I think what he got out of it was that the putters and coaching I give exactly matches what my colleagues in Europe would have given. That consistency is a huge advantage when players are under pressure."
