 Andres Romero - Augusta debut
|
Look out for an unlikely challenger when the US Masters gets under way next week. Argentinian Andres Romero, so closed to winning a major at The Open at Carnoustie last year, could be a real driving force around Augusta National, despite it being his first appearance.
The TaylorMade-adidas staff professional used his new TaylorMade Tour Burner driver to win his first PGA Tour title in the Zurich Classic to edge fellow TaylorMade player Peter Lonard into second place by one stroke. The Masters has a history of players in form making a big impact
Romero shot a 68 in the final round after a 65 in Saturday's third round en route to a 13-under par total, averaging 291 yards in the final round and hitting 83 per-cent of greens in regulation.
"I played great at the weekend, especially with my tee shots," Romero said. " I hit plenty of fairways.missed perhaps only two or three. That was very important."
