 Ping Collection Ayre sweater.

With the tides around the country expected to be the highest in 20 years today and the Autumn winds about to get up, it seems an appropriate time to look at two new windtop products from the Ping Collection and adidas.
The former is a division of Umbro sportswear, while adidas shelters under the same umbrella as TaylorMade with clothing endorsed by Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose.

When other manufacturers introduced sweaters that didn't gather around the waist, merely hung down loosely, I thought they seemed an up-market 'sloppy Joe' jumper from the 1970s - traditional unkempt studentwear- and wasn't initially impressed.
However, I am reliably informed by a slightly younger generation, who don't remember 'Flower Power' and 'Woodstock' that this 'sloppy' look is now acceptable on the golf course.
On a recent cooler day when the winds whipped across the Leicestershire countryside, it was time to introduce the Ayre sweater to an unsuspecting audience in the clubhouse and, while awaiting my change from the bar, received several compliments on the jumper - though not my golf!
Made from 80 per-cent lambswool and 20% polyamide it has a highly effective drop-liner system which stops the chill winds -they can cut through you in these parts- dead in their tracks.
It's stylish, too, with a robust and fashionable half-zip collar for maximum comfort. The fit, available from small to XXL, allows plenty of freedom for your golfswing even over a polo-neck jumper.
One of its most attractive features is the flecked colouring of the outer material, looking smart both on and off the course. The Ayre is available in three colours blue, slate and bark.
