Get a lesson with Monty

Take a tip from Monty.

Fancy a lesson with Colin Montgomerie? The seven times Volvo Order of Merit champion and Ryder Cup hero is attached to the Westin Turnberry Hotel and every year heads up a links golf school at his Ayrshire Academy. This year it takes place from August 29-31.

Alongside Turnberry's highly rated coaches, the much decorated Monty will give one-to-one lessons on how to play the shots that have won him countless tournaments and a place among the world's best players.

He's also great value on the social side he's always willing to share stimulating and thought-provoking views on the game while imparting some coaching gems.

A two-night package, which includes personal tuition from the Scot and the chance to play the legendary Ailsa (three times host to The Open Championship) and the highly acclaimed Kintyre courses, cost £545.

The price is based on two adults sharing a twin/double Classic room at the famous hotel, which overlooks the Irish Sea and Ayrshire coastline.

Alternatively, the Westin Turnberry is also offering visitors the chance to play its Donald Steel-designed Kintyre course and savour one night's accommodation (plus breakfast). The price of £365 (based on two sharing and twin/double Classic room) includes use of a buggy and a free Turnberry cap each.

Coaching at Hawkstone Park.

Hawkstone Park Hotel has launched a two-day golf school, on the fairways where former Open and US Masters champion Sandy Lyle once learned to play. It combines an overnight stay with an intensive learning experience for all abilities.

Says head professional Stuart Leech: "We are committed to helping enthusiastic golfers improve their individual skills. Incorporating an overnight stay means we are able to devise the perfect learning environment."

Teaching takes place on a group basis - from beginners to intermediate and low handicap players at the hotel's Academy course and on the driving range. It includes video analysis, chipping, putting and Rules sessions. The first day features individual video analysis, chipping, bunker play and an interactive rules session, followed by putting, pitching, the long game, and course management on day two.

Guests are invited to round off their instruction by adding an extra night (including dinner and B&B) and a round of golf.

For dates, availability and prices contact Stuart Leech, on 01939 200611 or e-mail:stuartleech@hawkstone.co.uk.

Marriott Hollins Hall.

Marriott Hotels, Britain's leading operator of resort course hotels, has launched its revolutionary 'Learn To Play Golf' programme - from just £65 for six lessons.

It's available at 11 Marriott Hotel & Country Clubs and includes six 45-minute lessons, which can be taken at any time and at any of their 11 UK resorts.

Beginners are taught by one of Marriott's PGA professionals - from how to hold the club to getting the ball airborne - and each pupil will be provided with a full colour manual to plot their progress. Even homework is set - both theory and practical.

The programme also incorporates use of the revolutionary Explanar System, allowing golfers to compare their swings with the professionals. You can choose to take all six lessons at your nearest Marriott or combine them with a weekend break which starts from just £65 per person (Marriott Hollins Hall, Bradford) including B&B and a round of golf.

For more information or to book call free on 0800 7319068.

If you've had a golf break with tuition thrown in - tell us about it on the Forum - especially if it's recommended.
