Arrived at the course this morning in good time for my practice round with Paul Casey at 12.50. We've known each other for a little while and enjoyed a few meals together on Tour.
I won £1 off Paul on the 4th where he thought his drive over the big bunker was too far right and in the rough. I said it was in the fairway and was proved correct.
We got a storm warning as we completed nine holes, so with lightning about, everyone had to come off the course which will be a bit frustrating for some. But I've seen enough to be reasonably confident and having shot about level par today will be happy with that tomorrow.
I spent the rest of the day practising chipping and putting which will be vital because the greens are hard to hold and your short game needs to be in good order round here.
Tonight we'll eat out with the family and have an early night around 9pm. I'll set the alarm for 4.30 because the courtesy car is picking me up at 5am. I've even decided I'm wearing red shirt and black trousers, though the weather forecast may mean I'm wearing waterproofs, too.
I'd have preferred a later tee time than 6.30 but, as I said, it's a great honour to be the first to drive off in the Open.
I've got some last-minute instructions from my Dad who sadly can't be here because he's in the middle of a house move to Spain. I know my friends and family wish me well, too and hopefully Amanda and Dane will be able to watch my progress on the back nine tomorrow while Thomas is in the creche.
I'm looking forward to it and will report back to you all around lunchtime on Thursday.
