If you could have a pro as your caddy for the day, whom would you choose?
Daft question? Not really, because Jay Delsing, a little known player on the US PGA Tour, secured the use of former 1995 US Open champion Corey Pavin to carry his bag during this week's Qualifying School.
The pair have been good friends for several years and Pavin, a dogged Ryder Cup campaigner, was just the calming influence and experienced shoulder, Delsing needed to see him through.
"I was incredibly calm throughout the round, but I was also praying a lot," said Delsing, who birdied holes 10, 11 and 13 to get to 7 under, then shot par to the finish of the six round tournament, closing on seven under par.
It was just enough to secure one of the top 30 cards at Orange County National near Orlando, Florida.
"I'm really proud that I was able to stay patient and make the shots I had to make with the pressure on. Corey helped me a lot - it was great to have such experience by my side," said Delsing.
