Seven tilt at £100,000 putt

Putting for a jackpot

Seven amateur golfers narrowly missed a chance to pocket £100,000 - and compromise their amateur status - when they took part in a putting competition at Powerscourt Golf Club near Dublin.

The contestants - none of whom had played golf before - had been chosen at random as members of the Gaming Club's websites and were faced with a 60 foot putt across the course's 18th green.

A large crowd turned out but were disappointed that none of the entrants picked off the tasty prize, though a couple had near misses and one even 'lipped out'.

A prize of £1,000 eventually went to poker player Kim from Hastings (privacy restrictions prevent the organisers from naming him) whose putt finished inches from the hole.

Tell us on the forum what you would have done with a £100,000 jackpot from a golf shot. Would you have retained your amateur status (restricted to £300 prize-money) or spent it?
