DryJoys Performance rain suit

DryJoys jacket

Price: £225 (Jacket £120, trousers £105)

Fortunately, I'm not one of those guys who regularly needs to nip behind a handy tree for a pee on every other golf hole. However there are many of us desperate to 'take relief' on a chilly winter's morn, especially after 'a wake me up' cup of caffeine.

So what has this alarming topic of conversation to do with the latest product from the FootJoy stable - this Performance Rain Suit from DryJoys?

Well, while the suit's navy trousers include 'quarter-length zips' in its specifications, the apertures are positioned at the bottom of each leg to prevent moisture getting in rather than acting as a 'fly' to allow… (I don't think I need to complete the sentence!)

The alternative is to, somewhat ungracefully, lower your elasticated, Gripper-waisted trousers, which most will admit, even looks undignified in the more appropriate surroundings of a clubhouse comfort station.

Apart from this minor complaint, the trousers keep me warm and dry, thanks to the built in Sta-Dry System, with those zips at the bottom of each leg making it easier to step in quickly with the threat of a shower - and three additional button options to protect socks and trousers.

Zip and button trousers legs

A waterproof back pocket is handy, too for scorecard or glove.

My only complaint about the jacket is that it didn't contain the protective front pocket listed in its features.

Available in black or yellow with navy trim, it's lightweight and airy with a ventilation pleat and plent of room so as not to restrict in your swing.

The adjustable 'It's a Cinch' pocket system also prevents the front of the jacket snagging on the handle of your putter as you bend forward.

Adjustable, elasticated and waterproof sleeves and a storm collar complete a snug fit.

Verdict

The suit is smart and lightweight and stands up well against the British climate with the only possible discomfort, the lack of a front zipper. Did someone once say 'there are no flies of FootJoy!'
