Hot topic: What's your 'Gear of the Year'?

Pick your gear of the year

It has been another awesome year for new golf equipment with almost all the major manufacturers stretching the boundaries of technology to help us hit the ball longer, straighter and closer.

And on occasions, so long that the Tours have had to threaten the pros and leading amateurs with a first tee gauge to measure the trampoline effect of some drivers to ensure they stay within the regulations of fair play.

So what, in your opinion, is your Gear of the Year? What club or ball has made this game even more enjoyable for you during 2004?

Your personal choice may be an innovation in technology or a practice aid, a driver that has given you great satisfaction in terms of distance and accuracy or a wedge that has enabled you to sharpen up your short game.

You may have bought a set of irons which has transformed your golf and reduced your handicap dramatically or a ball that has given you, not only extra distance but more control.

Alternatively a putter could get your vote - a traditional blade or heel-toe-weighted club or one of the latest back-weighted versions proving so popular among the pros.

It's a subjective and personal poll, but no less authoritative - because Golfmagic members are recognised as perhaps the best thermometer of opinion in the UK golf industry: Opinion and resultant feedback is almost instantaneous.

And as we have found from your user-reviews and your responses to our popular forum, we are all discerning purchasers whose observations are closely monitored by the golf trade.

Ryder Cup DVDs to win

And as a special incentive to receive your votes on the forum we've got TEN copies of the official Ryder Cup DVD to give away - the winners being chosen at random from the total entry.

Simply respond to the forum thread 'Gear of the Year' with your choice of equipment you've bought or acquired during 2004 and tell us why it gets your vote in not more than 30 words. But hurry, closing date is midnight December 19.

*The 35th Ryder Cup DVD is available from all good retail stockists, price £19.99. The video is £14.99.

I restocked the bag with several additions this year and making a top choice is not easy. Imagine you get to spend a night with a any one of the Miss Universe contestants, choice of one. Does it really matter which one? But in order of purchase of the additions I added the TM Rescue clubs, two through five, the KZG Gemini 395 driver, the TM Rescue Fairways 17 and 15 degree and a YES Sophia blade putter. I don't want to be without any of the above but I've to date had the best results from the Gemini and the TM 17 degree 3 metal Fairway Rescue. This KZG driver is double faced; it has both distance and accuracy enhancing features that perform in concert with each other. Off center hits come off the face with good distance and control. ...
