Mizuno irked by show feedback

Mizuno's London Show stand

While Mizuno was impressed and surprised at the turnout of golfers for the first London Golf Show, where it was one of only a handful of brands exhibiting, the company's David Matthews tells me he was a little disheartened to see some of the Golfmagic forum feedback regarding 'the non-attendance the big manufacturers.'

"While it was fairly modest, Mizuno did have an exhibition stand and six very knowlegeable employees in attendance," he told me.

Mizuno also ran two demonstration bays and supported both the floating green and chipping clinic with equipment.

He added: "We know that some of the public were a little disappointed with certain aspects of the show but we would like anyone that didn't attend, to be aware that Mizuno supported the event."

A feature of its stand, was its latest MP-32 cut muscle iron but such has been the worldwide surge in demand for the club that it has outstripped supply from its Hiroshima forging house. Mizuno has now advised European golfers to allow 4-6 weeks delivery on orders.

An increasing desire for traditional irons has been highlighted as the main cause and Mizuno believes that the MP-32's design has broken a widely held perception that blade-styled irons are difficult to use.

Andy Kikidas product manager for Mizuno Europe commented: "This trend back to more traditional equipment has been noticeable in the last three years, but the MP-32 has captured everyone's imagination.

"We are doing everything we can to increase production of MP-32 heads and deliver them to Europe as quickly as possible. We can only apologise to any golfers who hoped to get hold of a set quickly and hope they will consider the MP-32 worth the wait."

The shortage does not apply to MP-33, as used by Mizuno's No.1 player Luke Donald, the MP-37, MP-30 and MX-23 models.
