Golf clothing rivals Mizuno and Ashworth are set to reveal new ranges of clothing to protect golfers against our fickle climate during late summer and autumn.
Mizuno will introduce its Impermalite waterproof styles in Auigust/September, while Ashworth aims to steel an advantage by launching its 'Retro-Chic' Tour collection shortly.
Mizuno's Impermalite fabric 'doubles the waterproofness of its previous rainwear' and is the result of a five-year project by its Japanese fabric engineers to develop a material exclusively for golfers.
"An ultra fine micro-yarn is used to weave the this lightweight and breathable fabric and makes it ideal for golf," says Mizuno's Clint Vosloo, "The suits are also compact enough to be folded into their own zip away pouch, especially important for our Tour players."
The Tour rain jacket (recommended price £100) has a traditional flat front, full-length zipper, detachable sleeves, scorecard pocket and two-year fabric waterproofing guarantee.
It will be available in cobalt, navy, stone and black (sizes XS to XXL)
The Tour Zip rain jacket (£100) also has detachable sleeves and with a storm flap over the lockable zip. Coulrs and sizes are identical to the jacket.
The Tour rain trousers (£75) are made to complement the jacket and Mizuno tops in black or navy and include double zip side-pocket access to inside pockets and adjustable length knee snaps to shorten leg length.
Also in the range is a sweater (£85), wind top (£490 and roll neck (£34.99).
 Ashworth goes retro
|
Ashworth's retro range covers lightweight waterproof jackets and trousers, half sleeve and full sleeve windshirts, a reversible gilet and Outlast tops in a choice of colours. All are 'ultra-breathable, lightweight and machine washable,' says Ashworth.
The collection is a mix of black, sand and chive and a key development is the introduction of Outlast, an outer fabric made of 'low pill acrylic and combed cotton,' developed for NASA to provide more comfort in extreme conditions.
Grahame Jenkins, Ashworth's managing director for Europe, comments: "Ashworth has been re-defining golfwear for 14 years and this new collection continues to offer style and sophistication. We reckon the retro look will make it a winner in the golf market. "
Waterproof jackets are priced from £100, with trousers from £60. Windproof tops cost £55, windshirts £40 and gilets from £50.
