Buster claims Benross bonanza

The recent competition on Golfmagic sponsored by Benross Golf attracted an entry of more than 1,600 anxious to get their hands on a set of the latest Benross VX Combo irons or a runners-up prize of one of five Benross Ripple SR VMC putters.

Unfortunately only six could be plucked at random from the total entrants who successfully identified 'C' as the correct answer to the question, with Bruce 'Buster' Guard from Northchapel in West Sussex claiming the irons.

His prize will be 5-iron to sand wedge, plus two (3- and 4- Escape) hybrid utility clubs. The oversize design on the irons, says Benross, incorporates unique Trimass weight-positioning and anti-shock cartridge systems for more foregiveness, while the hybrids steel heads deliver a higher ball flight from a variety of lies.

Buster, who says he's '76 years young', tells me he has recently bought a Benross V12 driver and is delighted with its performance and so is looking forward to becoming the first Senior Benross 'staff' player!

"I played golf as a youngster but concentrated on work and cricket. When I retired in 1994 I took up golf regularly with the seniors at Shillinglee which has now closed. I now play at Chiddingfold in Surrey twice a week off a handicap of 20. I'm also a member of a small society called the Sussex Nomads and have just from a week with them at La Baule in France," he says.

Five runners-up each receive the latest Benross Ripple SR VMC putter, which is rapidly gaining in popularity with its Variable Mass Control system (VMC) which, through the use of a supplied socket tool, allows the player to switch between a light and heavyweight plug in the sole.

Peter Creasy (59) from Harwell, Oxfordshire plays off 10 handicap at Frilford Heath and also uses a Benross Compressor V6 driver, while Chris Lewis (45) is a policeman from Crowborough, Sussex who plays at Dewlands Manor.

"I'm still off 28 handicap but hoping to come down with this new putter,' he says.

Steven Gray (44) from Dunstan, Gateshead has been playing golf for 22 years and is a 17-handicap member at Close House Golf Club in Newcastle while Dave Henderson (33) a web designer from Bonnyrigg has a nine handicap at Whitekirk Golf Club, East Lothian.

Completing the putter winners is Peter Bartholomew from Stratford upon-Avon.
