New r7 irons aimed at better players

TaylorMade r7iron
r7 iron - 'big head, more distance'

Following on from its refinement of its r7 drivers with the r7 TP and r7 Draw, the Basingstoke-based clubmakers will be launching the r7 iron for skilled club golfers and the r7 TP iron for professionals and low handicappers.

The r7 iron, says TaylorMade, has been engineered for players who prefer an iron that's easier to launch high and straight while offering a degree of workability. Its main features are a large head and thin face, using a revised version of TM's inverted cone technology (ICT) to promote more ball speed and greater distance on miss-hits.

A shock-absorbing web also adds more forgiveness and feel at impact and low centre of gravity claims to deliver more height and distance. It is also moderately offset for accuracy.

Priced at £549 with steel shafts (3-iron to PW) or £649 for graphite, it will be available in right and left-hand versions for men and women.

Refined r7 TP - refined for Tour players

The r7 TP irons have been developed chiefly for Tour players and tournament amateurs with a compact head, thin top line and thin sole, to promote a blade-like feel and with its upgraded 'cor-zone', delivering the consistent yardage the pros demand.

Additional features include minimal offset, a slightly flatter lie angle and a tour-configured sole to help the clubhead glide smoothly through and clear of the turf.

The r7 TP iron has a True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft in R3, S3 and X1 flexes and Tour Velvet grip.

Says Toulon: "Tour pros put a premium on distance-control with their irons. They need to be confident that the ball will travel the chosen yardage, every time. We created the r7 TP to deliver constant distance from one swing to the next."

A set of r7 TP irons, including 3-iron through to PW, carries a recommended retail price of £599 with steel shafts for right and left-handers.
