Bobby Grace MOI putter
|
Why write a review of an old putter? This beauty has been highly rated for well over a year now and having been first launched in 2005, it's hardly the world's best kept secret.
And there's a really good reason for taking another look at the MOI (Moment of inertia) range of putters - they're a year old and much cheaper than putters introduced in 2006.
The V-Foil Bobby Grace MOI, originally retailed at £149 of your English pounds. That's the sort of money that could buy a small farm here in New South Wales, Australia and definitely in the "too much for a putter" category for me.
But last week, with nothing on telly (I watched the Ryder Cup in the early hours of the morning) and the rain pouring down, I bid for and won this gem on good old OZ ebay.
The guy's selling technique was: "Can't get used it on the course and it has been in the cupboard for six months."
I don't know if that scared off all the other buyers (or perhaps they were all out having a life at the time) but I got this M6.4k model for the equivalent of 30 quid. And,
guess what, it was brand new. Even the headcover was still pristine white (memo to MacGregor golf, white is a daft colour for anything in a golf bag).
Today I took it out on the golf course for the first time.
And is there any better feeling than your playing partner commenting as you walk off the 18th green 'You putted well today', especially when you're thinking of other hole-able ones that you missed?
This one is terrific. The sight line makes lining up 10-footers as easy those less than half that length and the face is so forgiving and responsive, you get that lovely soft sound at almost every impact.
It doesn't have the clunkiness on fast greens of the 2-ball and is easier to line up than any of the dozens and dozens of putters I have ever owned. Best of all, I can't wait to use it again.

Summary: | How long this love affair will last, I don't know, but I'm frightened that if I pinched myself, I might wake-up! You can buy these putters on ebay for a fraction of their ridiculous original price so, as an ex-patriate Welshman now living in Sydney, my advice is: 'Go help yourself, mate!" |
