Callaway's X-Series hybrid with distinctive X Sole technology
|
Callaway Golf was among other leading manufacturers, including Titleist and Ping, who delayed its entry into the hybrid/rescue market for fear this type of club might not sustain a long term future.
However, having seen the way these versatile 'wood-irons' fill the gap between long irons and fairway metals and have become a 'must have' part of almost every golfer's bag, Callaway Golf continues to contribute its technology to the cause of a club that has proved one of the best golf innovations of the 21st century.
With the launch of its new X-hybrids on November 15, extending the stainless steel design of its X Series drivers and fairway woods, Callaway says it has made the clubs even easier to hit than its already established Heavenwoods.
Among the design advances in the X-hybrids, says Callaway, is a modified X-Sole design to prevent the sole rocking as it comes in contact with the ground at address and to help nip the ball off the turf from almost any lie. The X-Sole design lowers the leading edge to help get the ball airborne quickly with 'more stability and improved trajectory control.' Long-accepted variable face thickness (VFT), combined with a shaft bored through into the sole also assists ' feel, forgiveness and increases ball speed off the face for greater distance'.
The new X-hybrids will be available in four models - 2H (18 degrees), 3H (21) , 4H (24) and 5H (27) and all but the 5H will be available in left-handed versions. Standard shaft is the Callaway Golf X Hybrid graphite, available in light, regular, stiff and women's flexes. Standard steel shaft is the True Temper Uniflex.
Suggested retail price of is £129 for graphite and £119 for steel.
