Harrington buys 1,000 flags!

US PGA Championship
Harrington has bought 1,000 18th green flags

Open champion Padraig Harrington has revealed that he has bought 1,000 replica flags representing the 18th green at Carnoustie to commemorate his victory there last month.

He plans to sign them and use them to give to family and friends and to use them to raise money for his favourite charities.

"Zach Johnson told me he bought 500 of the 18th green flags from Augusta National when he won the US Masters earlier this year but it wasn't enough," explained Harrington, who also aims to have a couple more Claret Jug replicas made.

Harrington will be paired with Johnson and US Open champion Angel Cabrera when the US PGA Championship kicks off at Southern Hills in Tulsa Oklahoma tomorrow (Thursday), where Tiger Woods in the hottest favourite on record.

Woods won last week's WGC Bridgestone Tournament curtain-raiser in runaway style and says he's brimming with confidence about the state of his golf game.

As for Harrington, the Irishman says he needs to sharpen his mental focus for the challenge that Southern Hills presents but will be ready when he steps on to the first tee just after 7pm UK time tomorrow.

"It was a good week to have that event at Firestone," said Harrington. "[And with a limited field] it was excellent to know we were going to get four rounds of golf on a tough course. But you're not going to find any courses as hard as the one we're playing this week."
