Driving force: A rare use of the driver by Tiger on Sunday at Southern Hills (Picture: Pete Fontaine/Visions in Golf)

Tiger Woods has revealed that he believes the golf ball is going further now than it did in 2001. He uses the Nike One premium ball but after comparing his tee shots at Southern Hills with those he hit when the US Open was played there last time, he says there's no doubt.
"I wasn't hitting it very well in 2001 but if you look at where I was hitting it, I was hitting it to exactly the same spots I did this week. I just wasn't able to hit the fairways," he says.
"I played to the same spots and Stevie [Williams] and I had the same strategy.
Nothing changed. The only difference was we're hitting less club because the ball's going so much further this year because of temperature and also the improvements in the golf ball in the last six years."
The world No.1 also revealed that in his opinion, equipment has improved to hit the ball even further.
"You see a lot of longer hitters hit 3-woods off the tee because the 3-wood these days is going as far as the driver used to when I first came out here," said Woods. "I had no problem hitting 3-wood over 300 yards, just because it was so hot."
Woods used a full bag of Nike equipment - apart from his regular Scotty Cameron Titleist Studio Stainless Newport II putter (and did you notice the Ping paddle grip in the close-ups?).
He used a SasQuatch Tour driver (8.5 degrees), SasQuatch 2 (15 deg) 3-wood, Nike Blades (2-PW) and two Nike wedges (Pro Combo 56-deg SW and SV 60-degree lob wedge). He wore Tiger Woods Collection clothing, Nike Dri FIT glove and Nike SP 8 TW Tour shoes.
