Burner iron - 'flies higher; easier to hit'

A forgiving club that hits the ball on a higher, further, stronger, softer and straighter trajectory. If only...

That's the description of a ball flight we'd all like to generate consistently as handicap club golfers but sadly, unless we practice with the dedication of a Tour pro, it's far out of reach.

But TaylorMade claims it has found the secret we all crave with its latest Burner XD (eXtra Distance) irons, 'incorporating the distance-enhancing technologies that have made the Burner driver' so popular with its circuit professionals.

TaylorMade says it has found every way possible to make Burner XD irons faster and longer' including a RE*AX SuperFast graphite shaft to promote faster swing speeds and more yardage through the air.

Most club golfers, seeking consistent forgiveness to cut out those squirty, thinned slices, will also appreciate the oversize clubhead, with its inverted cone providing the muscle behind the thin titanium face, says TaylorMade.

Sounds a pretty formidable combination - and it comes at a price.

For eight Burner XD irons, you'll pay £649 for steel shafts and £749 for graphite. The choice of clubs ranges from 3-iron to 9-iron, PW, AW, SW and LW. The lob wedge is not available for lefties.

As well as the XD irons TaylorMade has also released more detail of its new Burner Draw driver, which again it claims is 'incredibly easy' to hit longer and straighter.

A lighter, 46-inch Fujikara RE*AX shaft and draw-weight technology are responsible for helping to give the ball more roll on the fairway.

Burner Draw's face bias

Says Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade's senior director of product creation: "The Burner Draw features more draw-producing capabilities than any driver we've ever created, making it exceptionally easy to turn the ball over [through the air with a right to left ball flight]. It's going to give a lot of golfers a serious boost in distance, and will keep a lot out of trouble on the right."

The deep-faced, 460 cc titanium headed driver is available in 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts and with a recommended price of £219.
