Mizuno reveals putters and wedges

Mizuno putters
Mellow yellow: Ease your putting worries with these new Bettinardi putters from Mizuno

Mizuno is expanding its Bettinardi putter line with the Black Carbon Series, featuring a FIT (Feel Impact Technology) face, precision-milled from one piece of pure carbon steel to reduces the surface area where the ball makes contact. Luke Donald is currently playing the BC1 profile.

"I like to experiment with different metals to see what variety of sensations we can create at impact," says designer Bob Bettinardi. "Even with carbon steel that's perfect for the shapes and sizes preferred by our Tour players, we could never get anything as soft as inserts but if we could give them the same soft feel in a precision milled head, we would have an extremely popular putter.

"We came up with the waffle effecton the FIT face. It's not an insert, but a specialized milled section that allows just 30 per-cent of the material to contact the ball. The feel is sensational."

The Black Carbon putter series will launch with three unique headshapes - the heel-toe weighted BC 1 with squared edges on the trailing flange, the BC2 modified rocker-back style putter with a rounded trailing flange and BC3 mallet with wide flange.

Mizuno wedges
Wedge your bets: New MP-T Series from Mizuno

All Black Carbon putters will feature 4 degrees of loft and a 71-degree lie angle and honeycomb Sun-Gold/Black grips. Recommended price is £200.

Mizuno's grain flow forged wedge range has been updated with the introduction of a new Teardrop design MP T-Series, utilising a workshop C-grind sole design, rolled leading edge for minimal digging and cambered mid-sole for consistent ball striking.

Says Mizuno's Andy Kikidas: "Every golfer is looking for touch, feel, and consistency on their chip, pitch, and sand shots which is why a forged wedge is far superior than a cast model. The MP T-Series offers the best of everything you could ask of a wedge."

Champagne Howler: David Howell launches new Cleveland fitting centre at The Belfry

The MP-T Series wedges is available in 47, 51,53, 56, 58 and 60-degree options. and will cost from £89 each.

Cleveland Golf staff player David Howell has opened the company's first custom-fit centre in Europe - at The Belfry's PGA academy, offering club golfers access to the same fitting expertise enjoyed by Howell and other Cleveland players including Vijay Singh, Woody Austin and Boo Weekley.

Howell said: “Pro golfers would never consider playing with clubs which had not been personally fitted. Now that service is available to any golfer who wants to improve their game.”

As well as its HiBore drivers and hybrid clubs, it will be the first place golfers will be able to try out Cleveland's new range of CG14 wedges to be launched in November.

Dead right: Elite's new Dead-In putter

Latest obscure-looking putter in the US is Elite Sport's Dead-On III with a 'true grip' impact face, which claims to take hold of the ball during the split second of impact without setting the ball off-course.

The body of the Dead On putters feature three alignment arrows which give the impression of accelerating towards the ball.

Says ESP's Phil Vinton: "This is a club for the year 2010."

It's got a 2010 price tag, too of $369. I'd want mine to read the putts as well as hole them for that kind of money.

Fore-legged friend: The Doggy Driver fires tennis balls

And finally a novel gift that could only come from the US - a Doggie driver which launches tennis balls for your pet to chase.

Priced at $29.50 the Doggie Driver claims to launch balls upto 100 yards when they're place in the hollow cavity in the face. It swings like a normal club and enables 'hands free ball pick up' as well as the chance to practice your swing while you're walking the dog.

Suddenly a man's best friend is his driver!
