Octagonal fairway and rescue clubs

Hippo golf
Rescue me!: The new octagonal Hex fairway and rescue woods

When Hippo Golf introduced its Hex2 octagonal-shaped driver in January, it brought gasps of astonishment from the golf industry. But so successful has the club been that the makers have now introduced the Hex fairway and rescue woods.

The unusual shape, says Hippo, allows for better weight distribution to help keep the clubface square at impact and combines to reduce the effect of side spin and provide more energy transfer from club face to ball (less spin, more power).

Mitsubishi Rayon regular or stiff graphite shafts are provided as standard in the right-handed clubs, which have 3- and 5-wood fairway options (£59.99) or 21 or 24-degrees rescues (£49.99). So if you liked the Hex2 driver, you'll love these.

PowaKaddy, is reporting sales up almost 15 per-cent on the same period last year, after a boost in June highlighted in a recent online consumer survey by Foremost and Alliance Golf, which identified that over electric trolley owners surveyed used PowaKaddy.

PowaKaddy says its success has been built on the continued high demand for the world's best selling trolley - the Freeway.

Gillet for men: The Kai body-warmer

The innovators at Ping Collection have introduced a men's sleeveless gillet, similar to that which has proved popular in women's golf fashion - a body warmer gives the arms more freedom in the swing.

The wind-resisting, Teflon-coated and breathable Kai, is available in black or Mist and priced at £50.

Ping Collection's new, stylish Orchid waterproof suit for women is laminated, waterproof, breathable and windproof. Lightweight, soft and flexible materials allow freedom of movement, says PC. Colour options are Aqua Mist (with black), black (with Aqua Mist) and Flame (with black). The suit costs £120.

Putter device
Grip it: Putter Butler clip

Southampton-based brothers Clive and Trevor Rydzynski have designed an inexpensive device to make your putter more asily accessible while fixed to your golf troilley. The 'Putter Butler' costs £4.95 and can be attached by cable ties or double sided tape. Alternatively it can be drilled and screwed to most electric trollies and golf buggies.

Meanwhile a new device in the US is the KG ball-warmer - produced the raise the temperature of a golf ball where it reaches its maximum performance.

In cold temperatures a ball's performance can be reduced in terms of flight, spin and distance by more than 30 per-cent but with the King Golf device, which can be attached to your bag, six heated balls can be kept at the optimum temperature as if you were playing in 90-degrees.

The downside is that officially it can only be used for social play. Rule 14-3 states that a ball can only be artificially warmed BEFORE not during a round.

Interesting article - particularly the bit about the KG ball-warmer.

I think that Mr L. Irons might have summat to say about copyright - as his idea, the Fireball, was put on this site some years ago

Ah, yes 2001 - glad the search facility is working at last
