Callaway aims to steal the show!

Golf europe trade show

One of the main brands taking centre stage at Sunday's opening of the Golf Europe trade show in Munich is Callaway, aiming to reveal its exciting range of hardwear for 2008.

These include a fairway metal version of its ground-breaking FT-i square headed driver - intriguingly called the FT-i Squareway - together with a range of traditionally-shaped X Fairway woods.

The Chessington-based company also plans to launch its Hyper X driver with forgiving 'Hyperbolic Face Technology for increased forgiveness and FT-ibrid irons for the mid to high handicapper.

Says Callaway: "They're designed for the ultimate in forgiveness with an oversized design, increased offset and a large effective hitting with a wide sole. "

For the better player, Callaway introduce the 2008 FT -Iron with a new head shape, higher toe and thinner topline and X-forged wedges.

Mizuno golf 2008
Mizuno F-60 fairway metals

Among the Mizuno launches will be the F-60 steel fairway woods which aim to deliver a higher, more powerful trajectory than their F-50 predecessors. The clubface has been increase and the titanium crown improved.

Lofts available are 13.5, 15, 16.5, 18 and 21 degrees, with 15 and 18 degrees in left-hand versions. Recommended prices are £99 with steel shafts and £109 with graphite.

Following Bonhams' recent successful sale, held in Edinburgh, the golf memorabilia auctioneers are now planning sales for January and July, 2008 in Chester and Birkdale respectively.

Bonhams' Kevin McGimpsey will be visiting Ireland later this month to hold two valuation days dedicated to golf relics. On October 25 he'll be at Adams Auctioneers in St Stephens Green, Dublin and on October 26 at the Knock Golf Club, Summerfield, Dundonald

Sunray solar golf buggy

Retired Californians Bill and Margaret Oliver have extended construction of their solar energy home in Long Beach to create a solar-powered golf cart.

The Sunray SX2 buggy is being made by Cruise Car in Florida to retail for about £3,000. It comes equipped with a 48-volt battery that is charged by electricity generated from a sheet of black solar cells on the roof. The cart can travel as long as three days without having to be charged again.
