Poulter - first win outside Europe
|
Ian Poulter's victory at the weekend in the Dunlop Phoenix tournament on the Japanese Tour, has moved him into the world top 20 - an improvement of nine positions in the Official World Ranking, to 20th.
The
Cobra staff player led from the start to finish on 11 under par, cruising to victory over the Miyaki course using his King Cobra metal woods and irons to great effect. He fired a final round one-under par 69 to win by three shots over Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
Poulter dominated a strong international field that included fellow Englishman Luke Donald and Open Champion Padraig Harrington.
In his bag was a King Cobra Speed Pro S driver, X Speed 3-wood and Pro MB irons, which he recently described as 'the best I've ever used.'
The win was Poulter's ninth career victory but significantly it was his first outside Europe. This week he heads to China to represent England with Justin Rose in the World Golf Championship.
