Cleveland HiBore XLS range set for February

Following their first appearance at the Frys.com Open on the PGA Tour in October, when their staff players were drooling over their performance, Cleveland has announced it will reveal its latest HiBore XLS drivers, fairway metals and hybrids (pictured above) at the PGA Merchandise trade show in Orlando later this month.

It will mean eagerly anticipated availability on February 1.

Apparently the XLS fairway metals were a big hit with the pros and the Tour driver (there's also a draw and standard version) is said to have a higher MOI and will generate faster ball speeds on off-centre hits.

Key features of the driver (expect to pay just under £249 for draw and standard version, £279 for the Tour model) is a wide, forgiving face - 17 per-cent larger than its XL HiBore predecessor.

That means its guaranteed to instill even more confidence to the higher handicapper, who'll be able to generate even more power at impact and send the ball soaring on a high, penetrating flight.

Around a quarter more volume has been added to the XLS fairway metals (£139), Cleveland tell us, making the 3-wood, for example, approximately the size of the drivers we used to wield in the late 1990s.

That's confidence-inspiring yet again, while the square-head on the hybrid (£109) is equally over-size to create a more forgiving face.

Two shaft options will be available - Fujikura Gold for standard clubs (four options for the driver and fairway metals) and Red for Tour models (3).

Cleveland Golf may have been taken under the wing of the Srixon brand at the end of 2007 in a high profile merger, but it's certainly not going to be a silent partner - judging by its latest revelations.
