A true golfer's paradise! By GMAll year round courses | | |
|
Mexico's 8,000 Kilometres of pristine beach, desert, mountainous and tropical backdrops make for endless golfing options. The sport is rapidly gaining momentum and attracting international visitors from mixed genders and handicap levels to its multitude of 'all year round' courses.
Besides being the number one choice for North American amateur/pro and celebrity golfers, Mexico's high quality and varied designer courses have rapidly pushed the nation into the international golfing spotlight. Its recently gained IAGTO recognition as 'Golf Destination of the Year in Latin America' as well as the rising celebrity status of Mexico's female golf champion Lorena Ochoa, have helped legitimize the nations status as a world class golfing destination.
Now spreading rapidly, the Mexican golf virus has captivated the attention of the worlds top golfing names such as Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones Junior who play and have designed courses in the following 3 regions:

Aerial of Lovers Beach

Los Cabos:
Until recently the Baja California Peninsula was a well kept Mexican and American secret. Now with assistance from the government the area has managed to keep its tourist intake controlled and to a high standard not allowing mass tourism to invade its shores. This has triggered various big 'golfing' names to move in and design some of the best ocean-side courses on the planet. Imagine Cacti decorated desert on one side and the magnificent deep blue Pacific Ocean on the other.

Puerto Vallarta/ Nuevo Vallarta:
The Bay of Banderas is home to these two fantastic tourist destinations. The bay, the largest in Mexico, benefits from being protected from all sides by mountains and rain forest, giving the visitor a multitude of options and incredible panoramic views and sunsets. Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco State) is the original port of the bay, and still hosts an important marina and town centre, while Nuevo Vallarta (Nayarit State) is a newer destination, benefiting from miles of pristine coastline with top quality infrastructure and facilities. These two destinations are home to a variety of golfing options.

Cancun & Riviera Maya:
Last but definitely not least, is the beautiful Mexican Caribbean!
The world class courses and infrastructure available in this region are second to none, the turquoise waters, jungle backdrops combined with its white coral sand beaches have gained such attention in the golfing industry that last year Cancun not only won IAGTO's coveted 'Destination of the year, Latin America & Caribbean' award, but was also chosen to host the International Golf Travel Market's 10 year anniversary. The new eco-friendly mentality of this region which includes the historically rich Mayan Riviera stretch is attracting golf enthusiasts and their families who can benefit from the variety of other vacationing options available due to the areas cultural and natural richness.

| Posted: 04/03/08 23:13:18 18 | | Mrs Geldap has bought me a belated 40th Birthday pressie of a golf trip to Mauritius (no she isn't loaded - I work for an airline and have a mate out there to stay with so its reasonable). Going out there on Sunday with a mate and will be playing 3-4 rounds of Golf at Le Touessrok, Belle Mare Plage legends course and links course. I have played Le touessrok last year, awesome course, but have not played Belle Mare Plage. Anyone played it and what did you think? hat are the greens like etc and is it a go for it type course of do you need to play conservatively? Thanks in advance. |
