I dreamt the other night that I was playing in a fourball at Hillside Golf Club with three of my favourite golfers. (It's late night cheese and biscuits in front of the snooker on TV that tends to set me off!)
Why that particular course? I can't recall, though it does flank Royal Birkdale, about which I'd been writing an Open Championship preview that afternoon.
In my dream Lee Trevino stepped out from the shadows on to the sheltered first tee, had a bit of banter with a small group of spectators and in typical fashion sent a high, fading tee shot almost over the railway line and back into the centre of the fairway.
Hardly recognizable in a pair plus twos, the balding Sir Bobby Charlton embarrassingly nobbled a 3-wood into play no more than a 100 yards before Laura Davies, in this unlikely fourball, crushed a tee shot between the bunkers that pinch in the fairway at around 250 yards and almost up to the green.
My dream failed to record my own tee shot but fast-forwarding, I recall receiving a hefty slap on the back from Trevino for my lucky chip-in for par at the short 7th.
The rest is just a blur in my distant imagination but it got me thinking what fun it would be to offer the innovative Golfmagic forum some prizes for a their 'dream fourball'.
