England legends at Golf Show

Wright and Seaman among the celebrities visiting the UK Golf Show this week.Great chance to try new equipment.

Footballer turned TV presenter Ian Wright and 2006 Ryder Cup vice captain Peter Baker will be among the opening day celebrities visiting the UK Golf Show from Friday November 24 to Sunday November 26 at Birmingham Exhibition Centre.

Wright will be joined at the TaylorMade booth on Friday morning to check out the latest equipment, by former England and Arsenal team-mate David Seaman. Both are keen golfers and anxious to catch up on the interactive sections of the show, which also includes chipping and putting areas.

On Friday afternoon, Baker will be joined by fellow TaylorMade staff tour pro Steve Webster, winner of the 2005 Italian Open, both providing visitors with expert advice on how they can improve their game.

England’s most capped cricketer Alec Stewart will be taking advantage of TaylorMade’s custom-build van on Saturday (November 25), when Coronation Street legend Johnny Briggs and Birmingham-born actor, script writer and producer Al Hunter Ashton. (‘Pitbull’ in the ITV series London’s Burning) will be visiting the Macmillan Cancer Support stand.

As well as the 10,000 square metre driving range, where top brands Cleveland, Callaway, Wilson Staff, Mizuno, PING and Titleist will all be represented and offering equipment to try, there are opportunities to win great prizes, try your hand on golf simulators and pick up tips from PGA coaches, including Gary Alliss, son of commentator Peter.

A major attraction is the giant golf shop, stocked and staged by the De Vere Belfry, fashions, shows, seminars and a trickshot World record attempt by David Edwards.

Sounds like there's a great variety of golf gear to try at the UK Golf Show at the Birmingham NEC from Friday to Sunday. A couple of colleagues will be attending on Friday and I'll be there on Sunday checking out what's new. Me and 3 mates will be there on Saturday. I just hope that it improves on the London Golf Show.

It seems as though all the so called celebs are there on the friday which is a shame as it is always nice to spot someone "off the telly".

I hope you and the golfmagic members all enjoy what we've put together and come away pleasantly surprised.

The theme of our show is purely Golf and with 7 Major Manufacturer's in attendance, (5 of which with tour trucks) a host of Pro's giving free lessons and lots of interactivity we feel that in this, our first year, we have built a solid platform on which have already made plans to expand.

If Kevin Blair has something he wants to say to the GM members then why not post to them, rather than this hollow attempt to promote under the guise of a personal note to Bob.

Doubtless the GM royalty will be treated to free admissions, slap up lunches and mollycoddled with lambswool gloves in the promise of favourable reviews, while any poor sap daft enough to attend will look forward to queues, rip-off prices and not even a personal letter from Kevin on these boards in way of thanks.

No you'll pay like everyone else. You seem hell bent on putting people off Creosote and that is your choice however I would ask that you dont paint me with the same smelly illegal paint that you take your name from.

Bob and the GM members have been good to us and I have been happy with the results of sponsoring the forums that you've so readily air'd your comments on for the last 6 months.

Whereas I respect most peoples opinions on any topic - I'd be very greatful if you'd keep yours to yourself on this one matter until at least you've seen what we have to offer. I apprecaitte there has been a few things in the past that may have put you off but I have had nothing to do with any other organisation or show and you haven't seen our show yet.

If your so tight that £10.00 for an indoor Golf experience is too much for you then I'll gladly foot that bill myself.

Actually Creosote, I'll retract my first comment - I'm personally inviting you to the show as my guest and will have a ticket on the door waiting if you email ( email address is on our website ) me with your details.

In return I would appreciatte a well balanced report back - say what you like - say what you dont like but at least be honest. only that way can we improve the service.

The choice is yours but allow everyone else the same right.

Having attended the show on Friday I have to say I was very disappointed. There seemed to be very few stands where you could actually see, touch and buy, and I didn't really see anything new. I was there a couple of hours and I really had to stretch it out to be there that long. The food (at the "Carvery") was absolutely terrible and a rip-off.
A lot of people slated the 1st London Golf Show, which, incidentally, I enjoyed (apart from the plethora of holiday stalls), but there was a lot more going on and I would say it was twice as good as this one.
This is obviously only my personal opinion but I for one wont be rushing back.

Guys, I started another post on this topic ... sorry, I hadn't seen this one.

Kev, I'm going to be honest (though this is clearly just my opinion, and those gleaned from others I spoke to and observed) ... I was massively disappointed with the show. I'm a very upbeat person normally, a very "easy" consumer, and yet I felt completely let down by the show, I'd even talked 4 friends into goind because I was so convinced that it would be great. I was impressed by the facilities available to children and those who have never played golf before - always good to appeal to a new audience, but as a current adult golfer I felt that there was little there. Particularly surprised that the R&A or PGA weren't directly involved from an exhibiting point of view (despite Gary Allis making himself well known and David Edwards pushing the "visit an official pro" line a lot. Also surprised that none of the magazines were interested in exhibiting ... where were golf punk and golf World, despite their advertising??

I really think it could have been better after 2 years of the London show to digest, together with the NEC show from 1997 and there needs to be some massive communicated changes made before you can look at 2007.

Talking from an exhibitors point of view, I was actually very impressed with the show. The only negatives that visitors mentioned to us were that it was too small and it may have benefitted from a larger 'discount' area for people to grab a bargain or two.

I think it has proved that a midlands show works though and 2007 will be much bigger - I know of lots of companies who visited the show to have a look and will come next year.
