Verchenova re-signs with Wilson

Wilson Golf has re-signed Russia’s No.1 female golfer Maria Verchenova in a deal that will see the 26-year-old compete on the Ladies European Tour with the Wilson Staff FG Tour irons.

Verchenova, who now goes by her married name Balikoeva, captured the Russian, Austrian, Latvian and Slovenian Amateur Championships before becoming the first Russian to gain full LET membership in 2007.

The Moscow-born star will carry the Wilson Staff Pro Tour bag and play the same irons used by major champion and European Ryder Cup hero Paul Lawrie.

Verchenova bounced back in style from the birth of her first child at the end of Decemebr 2012 to make the cut at the Dubai Ladies Masters.

“We’re delighted that an athlete as talented as Maria has committed to the brand and look forward to supporting her quest to win a Tour title,” says Doug Wright, business director for Europeat Wilson Golf.

“It re-affirms Wilson Golf’s commitment to the ladies game at a time when our product offering for female amateur golfers is better than ever before with the new D-100 range.”

Verchenova joins a star-studded 2013 roster at Wilson that includes Lawrie, three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, Dane Andreas Hartø and PGA Tour duo Ricky Barnes and Kevin Streelman.

Stupples, who won her only major to date with victory at the 2004 Women's British Open, claimed she had lost her contract because Wilson was moving away from the women's game.

The Wilson Staff Women’s D-100 range, a new family of clubs designed specifically for the vast majority of female amateur golfers, will be available next month.
