TWELVE
years on since being heckled by fans for his laborious pre-shot waggle and comments towards Bethpage Black, Sergio Garcia is now lauded by the locals.

All thanks to handing out free TaylorMade SLDR S drivers.

Garcia, who was not a fan of the Black Course at New York’s Bethpage State Park or its patrons when the US Open was staged there in 2002, ambushed groups on the first tee with announcers, TV cameras and a gallery watching on, all part of TaylorMade's "Distance for All" campaign promoting the new SLDR S driver.

The day is chronicled in a company-produced YouTube video, but the biggest surprise might have been Garcia’s engagement with the fans who once mocked him. There were handshakes, jokes and high-fives all around.
