Fairway metals from Titleist and Cobra
Pro Trajectory 904F and SZ fairway clubs aimed at the serious golfer- and with a serious price.
 Titleist Projectory 904F fairway metal
|
To compliment its recently launched 905 driver series, Titleist is introducing a 904 fairway metal range for ‘the serious golfer seeking versatility and high performance.’
Titleist says its Pro Trajectory 904F fairway metals deliver ‘improved launch, spin and flight characteristics,’ providing a high launch, low spin, long distance 3-wood, and a full complement of higher-lofted clubs to fit the ‘yardage gap’.
"The new clubs are a bi-product of the research we have conducted with our PGA Tour players and club pros," PGA club professionals," comments Titleist’s Chris McGinley. "The 904F family of fairway metals gets the ball up easily, yet maintains a flatter more boring ball flight. It looks great at address and plays even better."
Already used by Ernie Els, the 904F is around 15% bigger than its predecessor and provides higher ball speed on the club golfer’s off-centre hits.
It is available in five lofts ranging from 13 to 22 degrees in both right and left hand and a full matrix of steel and graphite shaft options. Recommended price is £140 for a steel shaft and £200 for graphite.

Cobra SZ offset fairway metal for Seniors
|
All the more surprising therefore that the latest Cobra SZ fairway metals should be priced at £250 each, whether for the SZ Straight Neck, the SZ Offset Senior or the SZ Women’s offset.
Features include a low centre of gravity in the sole, a larger confidence-inspiring head, a 9-point sweet zone in the face and a fitted head cover.
While the SZ Straight neck is aimed at the regular club golfer, the Senior Offset model, is aimed at the player looking for high trajectory and carry.
The SZ Women's Offset claims to be long and forgiving for those looking to improve accuracy from any lie. They will also be attracted by the ‘solid feel
and a sweet sound’, says Cobra.

Scud - my clubs are - Ping i3 steel head driver (2nd hand), cobra ss 5 & 7 wood (2nd hand), progen fb2 9 wood, MD Golf 11 Wood, Progen Progress Hybrid, RAC HT irons (2nd hand), Progen LW, RAM Zebra Z2 putter.
I was using my dad's old (1996) Cally BB irons for a while (must update profile).
I've tried various clubs, and the above are the the ones that have suited me best.
My point is not that I'm against use of premium brand clubs, my point is that golf is not about image. i.e. I don't choose my clubs based on looking good in front of my mates (otherwise I wouldn't have an 11 wood!).
I'm not saying that premium brands are cr*p, and I'm not having a pop at anyone using them because they've found them to be the best for their game.
