The Belfry, England’s former Ryder Cup venue, is offering amateur golfers the chance to 'compete like a pro' in its Brabazon Challenge, supported by Mizuno, the leading Tour club supplier.
Teams of two can enter the summer-long competition on The Brabazon in one of four qualifying rounds staged between May and August.
Included in the £199 entry fee is the 18-holebetter ball Stableford competition and a buffet breakfast upon arrival. The top two teams from each qualifier progress to a finals weekend in September. The leading three teams from each qualifier will receive prizes from Mizuno with further custom-fitted clubs and golf bags on offer to the overall winners.
Qualifying rounds take place on: Tuesday 26 May 26 (8 am to 9.30 am); Tuesday June 16(8 - 9.30); Tuesday 21 July 21 (8 - 9.30) and Tuesday Aug 18 (8.30 -10). Handicaps need to be CONGU-recognised
through a golf club, limited to a maximum 24 for men and 28 for women but with any pairs combination - men's, women's or mixed.
Mizuno’s team of specialist custom-fitters will be on hand throughout the qualifying days to offer custom-fit sessions and show off their latest range of equipment.
The eight teams making it through to the finals weekend on September 5 and 6 will compete in betterball matchplay in quarter-finals and semi-finals with the finalists offered complimentary dinner, bed and breakfast in The Belfry’s four-star hotel ahead of the final on the Sunday.
“The Brabazon Challenge gives everyday golfers the chance to follow in the footsteps of their golfing heroes by competing on one of the best courses in the UK,” said Gary Silcock, The Belfry’s director of golf. “The format of the event means that everybody has the chance of winning, and we’re looking forward to a keenly contested competition.”
All golfers signing up to The Brabazon Challenge also have the option to enjoy a special half-price practice round on the day before qualifying, at £70 per golfer after 2pm, while preferential bedroom rates are available in hotel the night before qualifying, at £69 per twin room.
