Phil Mickelson came tantalisingly close to shooting golf’s magic number last week when sending his ball 180-degrees around the hole before tapping home for a first-round 60 at TPC Scottsdale.
Well if you think Lefty, or any other professional will shoot 59 this week, get yourself involved with 888 Sport’s tempting 33/1.
888 Sport are also offering 5/2 on a player shooting 59 at any time this year on the European and PGA Tour.
The 9/2 for a golfer to shoot 59 on the PGA Tour only this season might be more appealing given the five previous players to shoot 59 have all produced the feat on the PGA Tour.
And if you fancy the almost impossible to happen, get yourself involved with the whopping 250/1 on offer for a golfer to card a round of 59 in one of the four majors this year.
Five players have shot 59 in official PGA Tour events. Al Geiberger did it in the 1977 Memphis Classic, Chip Beck in the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational, David Duval in the 1999 Bob Hope Invitational, Paul Goydos in the 2010 John Deere Classic and Stuart Appleby in the 2010 Greenbrier Classic, while Annika Sorenstam became the first lady to shoot the magic number at the 2001 Standard Register PING.
Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa had the lowest round on a major tour, shooting a 12-under 58 to win the 2010 Crowns on the Japan Tour.
