Poulter won with 69% of the vote

Ian Poulter has been voted Golfers’ Hero of the Year after a survey of around 100,000 golfers by YourGolfTravel.com.

The 36-year-old Englishman proved the overwhelming choice following his heroic display at the Ryder Cup, in which he helped Europe stage one of the greatest comebacks in the event by winning all four of his matches.

Poulter, who claimed 69% of the votes, has also enjoyed a steller individual season, winning the WGC-HSBC Championship last month on top of three top-tens in the four majors.

“I’m really honoured to receive the Golfers’ Hero of the Year award – the support I’ve had this year from fans was key to the success I’ve enjoyed on the course,” said the World No.12.

YourGolfTravel.com has also put pen to paper with Darren Clarke - just days after the Northern Irishman extended his equipment deal with TaylorMade.

The 44-year-old, who recently received his OBE from the Queen, will carry the travel company’s logo on his shirt as an official sponsor alongside Dunlop Collection.

“As Europe’s largest golf travel business, they have an influential role to play in attracting new people to golf and that can only be good for the long-term future of our great game,” said Clarke.

YourGolfTravel.com co-founder Ross Marshall added: “Darren has always been a great hero of ours and it’s a great honour for us to be able to sponsor him to help take our brand to a global audience. His emotional victory at last year’s Open Championship and Ryder Cup heroics at the K Club in 2006 will be remembered by golfers for many years to come.”
