Ian Poulter has revealed that while he believes his fashion sense puts other golfers in the shade, he admits he has two left feet when comes to strutting his stuff on the dance floor.

All dressed up and nowhere to go, then Ian?

The 34-year-old told Sky Sports magazine: ”I like to think I can throw some shapes and cut a rug but I’m a horrible dancer, really; I’ve got two left feet.”

Asked which songs are guaranteed to get him gyrating, he said: “It depends on what sort of function it is. If I’m out partying with the lads, it’ll probably be some house music, whereas if I’m out with my wife, it’ll be something slower.

“I do have a massively eclectic taste in music, though. I like garage music and I like a bit of everything - from Coldplay to U2 to Michael Jackson.”

Poulter also revealed that he’s now looking to supplement his own fashion label IJP Design, which distributes in 22 countries, with a ladies line of clothing.

“Historically golf and fashion have never seen eye to eye. Personally I think it’s too easy for people to just throw a pair of khaki trousers on with a polo shirt. It takes some thought to look good but I think it’s worth it.

“My signature trouser is the boot cut which I’ve been wearing for a while now, especially the tartan one. They’re like an anti-Parnevik trousers - he does like a drainpipe does Jesper.”

Poulter credits Nick Faldo with his recent rise up the rankings.

“To get picked by Nick Faldo [for the 2008 Ryder Cup] was huge but then to back it up by being the only player to tee off in all five sessions and emerge as the highest points scorer, was just fantastic.

“It has given me a lot of confidence and I like to think it really kick-started my rise up the world rankings.

So what kind of captain will Colin Montgomerie make, Ian?

“Monty will be great. His record speaks for itself and he’s a great speaker and motivator, too. You shouldn’t need any extra motivation to play in the Ryder Cup - and everybody should be up for it - but having a strong captain is vital.”

Tell us on the forum about your taste in music and what kind of dancer do you think you are. Maybe you have some images you’d like to share?

Following Ian Poulter's revelation that he loves music but is a 'terrible' dancer, tell us about your taste in music and what kind of dancer do you think you are. Maybe you have some images you’d like to share?

For my part I'm a Beatles fan from the 60s and once met my heroes The Hollies.

I was also the first journalist to write about the 1965 group of RAF servicemen called 'Hedgehoppers Anonymous', who had a one-hit wonder with 'It's Good News Week'.

I'll get mi coat...

Taz
Excellent Bob - Hollies were under-rated and produced some brilliant stuff.

Got into the dance scene when I was 20/21 at 'Becky's' (Rebecca's) in Birmingham. Was taught to reggae by black chicks in the Sin Bin - 'cos I loved the music. Moved and grooved to Pluto Shervington, The Upsetters (Hurt So Good with Susan Cadogan a classic), Desmond Dekker, Judge Dread, Max Romeo's Wet Dream ("Lie down girl let me push it up" another classic)

Most Brummies could 'move' in those days - My missus still can reggae and for our 25th anniversary we reggae'd in Oistins Fish Market Barbecue, Barbados - with some 'experts'

Will still get up and 'grind' with her to any reggae music.

We have always danced - and will get up to anything 70's,  partic  The Stones, or any Soul stuff.

Have also been known to do ballroom - we did a year of lessons.

I have also been a Morris Dancer

. . . but I'd like to keep that bit quiet

Used to be in a band resident at the Plaza Oxford Road manchester.

You could see the Hollies,Wayne Fontana and The mindbeders and a couple of decent support groups. Plus Dave Le Travis and often Jimmy Savile for 2 and 6 (half a crown in proper money).A pint cost 9p I think. This is a strain on the old memory box (was it that good)Then there were the all nighters at the Twisted Wheel,Wigan Casino and the Torch in Stoke. You could see all the great Soul bands from the USA plus some fantastic home grown talent. None of these "boysy/girlie plonker bands.Take a look at manchesterbeat.com or mersybeat great days
