Odd, it seems, but we haven't heard much lately about slow play on the golf course. I'm sure it's still a problem at courses around the country it's just that no one appears to have been fined on Tour lately and even fewer have hit the headlines with incidents of 'golf rage'because they been held up by the group ahead.
Perhaps because of the spotlight on MPs expenses and the fear of adding to the sad increase in jobless figures more of us are looking over our shoulders!
At the Celtic Manor Resort, in Newport, Gwent host of next week's Wales Open and The 2010 Ryder Cup, there's no chance for time to stand still and for players to use the excuse they lost track of it.
Rolex, partner and official timekeeper to The 2010 Ryder Cup, has put in place one of its largest clocks in front of the new Twenty Ten Clubhouse.
One of only two Rolex clocks of this size in existence, it measures 2.75 metres in diameter and weighs over 350kg. It had to be winched into position by crane and now complements nine other clocks recently installed in the Twenty Ten Clubhouse and ten existing clocks around the Celtic Manor Resort. No excuses for members and visitors here!
To ensure pin-point precision, the clock will operate by receiving an MSF signal, transmitted from Anthorn in Cumbria to keep the giant clock accurate to within one thousandth of a second.
The only other clock of similar size overlooks the final hole of the Championship Links at Carnoustie Golf Course Hotel.
Dylan Matthews, chief executive of The Celtic Manor Resort, said;
“This impressive clock forms a fitting centrepiece for The Twenty Ten Clubhouse, facing the 18th green where so much drama will unfold and where history will be made. It's now less than 500 days until The Ryder Cup and we look forward to counting down every second.”
