Vandals damage golf club greens

VANDALS have driven over Moss Valley Golf Club's greens on motorbikes, causing at least £1,000 worth of damage.

It's thought that at least one vandal has been targeting the club for over two months by riding across the well-maintained greens at night.

The owner of the golf club, 31-year-old Richard Thomas, says the attacks have now been reported to the police.

“We have had isolated incidents take place here in the past, but nothing like this,” said Mr Thomas. “On one occasion we had to close off a hole because it was unplayable due to the damage which had been caused.

“I don’t know if there is just one motorcyclist involved or more. There are tyre imprints and skid marks left in the turf. There was also an incident where large rocks were thrown into greens.

“In total the damage which has been caused by the spate of vandalism comes to about £1,200.”

The incident follows a rise in anti-social behaviour in the Moss Park Valley area in which hooded youths have been reported by locals for drinking late at night and causing trouble.

Councillor Arfon Jones, who represents Gwersyllt West and a former policeman, believes the Moss Valley Park vandal will be linked to the recent unrest.
