A back-injury sustained playing cricket is currently frustrating Steve Willett in his efforts to reduce his golf handicap of 18 but has not prevented him from submitting a winning product review to Golfmagic.com during October.

The 39-year-old internal auditor from Braintree in Essex, while recovering from an operation, sent in a review of the Mizuno MX-500 driver which he cleverly described as 'MXcellent!'

Along with Tony Depear he wins a World Tour ProStroke Golf game for his PC, courtesy of Oxygen Elite, featuring Sergio Garcia, Colin Montgomerie and Ian Woosnam, with commentary from Sam Torrance and Ian Baker-Finch.

In his review, Steve said: "The first five shots I hit on the range were all very long (200-240 yds) but pulled left. I made slight adjustment to the ball position at address and all I can say is Wow! This is the most consistent, forgiving, long and accurate driver I have ever hit."

Because of the job I don’t get on to the golf course as often as I’d like," says Steve "but I manage a dozen or so rounds a year plus the occasional corporate day. I also run a company golf society with about 50 members and play either Crondon Park Golf Club or Channels near Chelmsford."

The highlight of his golf career is being a part of a four-ball where two players holed in one and a third player hit the flagstick, at the same hole.

"Mine was the ball short and right of the green!" he adds.

Tony, meanwhile, was full of praise for the MD Golf Superstrong Hot Ti400 driver which he bought in pristine condition for just £30.

"A friend has a Slazenger K1 Speed driver (y'know, the one off the telly!) which I had a bash with and which convinced me that maybe it was time to invest in one of the modern woods, to replace my old tiny driver," says Tony (25) a mainframe operator / musician from Aberdeen, currently living in Sheffield.

"So off the back of previous reviews on Golfmagic I bought this one and can hit it as the K1 but with less effort and a saving of £140."

Tony describes himself as 'a desperately average' golfer returning to the game after about five years out. But adds: "I'm back playing the last couple of months and getting there, gradually. I don’t currently have an official handicap yet, but realistically I’d be stumbling about in the high 20s!"

*Make sure you tell us about the clubs in your bag as well as the balls, shoes and waterproofs because in November we're giving away two of the latest F7 drivers from John Letters for the best submissions to our user reviews Golfmagic has over 3,000 items of equipment reviewed within its system, many of which golfers use to consider their purchases. Most, too, can be bought from our shopping partners, which are listed on the left-hand side of every page.

And if you’ve got equipment to buy or sell second hand you can do that too, in our popular classified section.
