First Impression:TaylorMade 09 Rescue 3

"The most versatile of clubs for any bag'

Posted: 17 June 2009
by Tim Beard

As so many of us have discovered the modern Rescue club is designed to be a user-friendly option to the 3- or 4-iron, which have become increasingly difficult to hit from anything but the perfect lie or a tee peg. Here's another that comes highly recommended...

TaylorMade 09 Rescue hybrid

The new 09 Rescue clubs come in No.2 (17 degrees), No.3 (19) , No.4 (22) and No.5 (25) versions and are designed to be high launch and forgiving.

Looks: Class all the way. The shiny, black head and narrow hosel make the TaylorMade Rescue 09 a real pleasure to address. A detail mark running parallel to the club face helps with lining up. Compact clubhead makes it easier to play from the rough.

Feel/performance:Described as having a 10 per-cent lower centre of gravity than the TaylorMade Burner rescue of 2008, this club really gets the ball up in the air and moving forward quickly. And the high trajectory helps to land the ball more softly.

I was comfortably able to pitch the green on a constantly demanding 190-yard par-3 at my home course over a valley without the ball bounding to the back of the green. Comfortable TaylorMade grip and a good, solid feel to the strike helps to promote confidence.

Satisfying, too, out of first cut of rough and responsive for those chip-and-run shots around the fringes of the green when a putter or wedge tends to get tangled. The most versatile of clubs and an excellent addition to any bag..
