Ping G2 driver review
Ping G2 driver

David Bailes is making a third and final attempt to master the game of golf - and thanks to a Ping G2 driver reckons he may, at last, have cracked it.

The 55-year-old construction industry contracts manager from Trowbridge, Wiltshire, submitted a winning user-review during January to claim one of two John Letters Wallace carry bags we gave away. He told us about the club he bought to replace the Ping G5 and how it has transformed his game.

"With the G5, I thought I had found the ideal 460cc driver but what a disappointment. I even had a lesson to see what was wrong with my driving, " said David, who travels to South Yorkshire regularly and also calls in to the Pete Cowen Academy to practice.

"Then I noticed an 11-degree Ping G2 with a lightweight, regular shaft, took it out for a round and got on fantastically with it. I did a straight swop and even bought my wife one.

"She's also a 21-handicapper and is ladies vice caption at our home club Bowood," says David who first took up the game in the early 1970s in Hull while on leave from the Merchant Navy, tried again in the 1990s, then persuaded his wife to join him and says he 'has never looked back.' Both will be travelling with friends to a golf holiday in Florida next week. For 39-year-old military serviceman Gary Cassidy from Fulford near York, the Mizuno Bettinardi putter C Series putter has proved a sound, though expensive, investment.

"For me, the feel and the Mizuno build quality of this putter is very impressive even when it is sitting in my bag waiting to be let out, with its standout white, padded headcover," says Gary, a 16-handicapper at Forest Park who has been playing for five years.

"I previously had a two-ball steel putter but could not get the right feel. But with this putter I can tell straight away that it's working for me."
