'Get into the groove.......and stay there'
Strengths:
It claims to get you swinging on the right plane and provide strength training at the same time and it really seems to work.
Weaknesses:
Comes with fitted moulded grip which may not suit all hands/grips.
Overall:
If you've seen the Golf Channel (Digital TV Channel 429) then there's a very good chance you'll have seen the Momentus Swing Trainer being endorsed by David Duval, (it's rarely off the screen).

It's a weighted practice club reputed to help you get into the correct swing plane, therefore hit straighter and the extra weight means your muscles get a good work out too.

It certainly gets noticed with the bright yellow shaft and due to the solid shaft it weighs in at over double that of a normal club - you'll be surprised at the weight of it when you first pick it up.

The Swing Trainer is designed to be hovered above the ground before swinging and is a few inches shorter than a normal Seven Iron on which it is based (although the makers do not recommend you actually hit balls with it). When swinging the weighted shaft back you can really feel the individual muscles working and after ten to fifteen swings I felt like I'd warmed up quite nicely. The club comes with a rather clumsy moulded grip which is allegedly based on that of David Duval, it may not fit everyones' fingers, I'm considering cutting it off and getting the club regripped but if you are fairly new to the game and haven't yet established yourself a good grip it may be of use.

The first thing I noticed, after initially warming up with the Swing Trainer and picking up a normal club, was how light my irons felt (and with steel shafted Ping Zing 2's I don't get to say that very often!),they felt like precision instruments and I could feel every nuance in the swing. Also with the Swing Trainer being so heavy it's almost impossible to rush the swing so I found myself getting used to a much slower, smoother swing which when transferred to a normal iron produced some great results.

I'm not normally one for training gimmicks but I would recommend the Momentus swing trainer to anyone, it's great for warming up before a game, using at the range between clubs, or even swinging in the house (at your own risk) for a couple of minutes just to keep that muscle memory tuned, I'm not quite sure how it makes you swing in the correct plane but it feels good when you use it and who am I to argue with 100 PGA tour players?

'HAVE BEEN TEMPTED BY THE ADVERTISING.'
Strengths:
Looks like everyone who has used the trainer has improved their game.
Weaknesses:
The dodgy presenter hardly gives you confidence - he also advertises Dalton McCrary - and gives you the impression that he has had a miraculous improvement in his game by using DM - but is also getting benefit from Momentus?

Then there's that guy who has gained 20 yards with his 7 iron - from 140 to 160 yards; he has also improved his accuracy by 600%. Oh by the way his handicap when he started using the momentus was 2 - come on if a 2 handicapper can only hit a 7 iron 140 and his accuracy had room for a 600% improvement then I'm playing the wrong game.

Abd then there is good old Al Jerkins - enough said!!

By the way apart from David Duval (who seems to have had a spectacular loss of form lately - is this the Momentus at work?) - who are the other 100 professionals; they have never been named.
Overall:
I just think that the advertising, professional as it is, is now having a counterproductive effect on me.

PS I have to give a product rating in order to submit this response - please ignore them.

'IT REALLY DOES WORK'
Strengths:
In 4 weeks of owning it, it's give me something I've been searching for for 25 years: a reasonably reliable, repeatable, swing!
Weaknesses:
The advertising on the Golf Channel, which makes it seem a complete gimmick.
Overall:
My golf has been in the doldrums for the last 12 months and I was willing to try anything. The moment I got onto the golf course after swinging Momentus every night for 4 weeks (yes, sad life), I could see that my swing had become much more solid. More importantly, in 5 rounds since I bought Momentus, my average score has come down by 5 shots.

What Momentus does is it makes it impossible to swing from the top - it's just too heavy. So suddenly you're coming down nicely from the inside, and those ugly pulls, slices, shots off the toe are gone for good. The challenge is the carry the Momentus swing out onto the course, but it does seem that the extra weight of the Momentus club makes it that much easier to commit it to muscle memory.

ps No, I'm not one of those people who appear in the advert.

'IT'S THE BEST TRAINING AID I'VE USED!'
Strengths:
Takes next to know time (5 minutes, 3 or 4 times a week)and you know from the first swing that this is what you should be doing. Particularkoy good for stopping thje "over the top" move that's the big cauise of slicing.
Weaknesses:
A bit expensive for what it is and you probbaly need to have some sort of decent swing before you start to gain the benefit.
Overall:
Worth a punt particularly if you've tried everyhting else to no avail.

'COMPLETELY OVERPRICED, BUT A SOUND PIECE OF EQUIPMENT'
Strengths:
Helps to build your golfing muscles adding increased control and therefore consistency in your swing.
Weaknesses:
It is not a magic wand that will cure a bad set up, give you a perfect swing and turn you into a pro.

It is completely overpriced and I am sure anyone with some basic DIY skills could make a weighted club for a fraction of the cost and get exactly the same benefits as using this one.

I would prefer it to have come without a moulded grip.

The advertising is simply shocking - nuff said!
Overall:
I understand a weighted club (not necessarily this one) is used by a lot of pro's as part of their training regime. I remember seeing a feature on Vijay Singh who made his own and was an advocate for the benefits of using a weighted swing trainer.

My overall ball striking, consistency and scoring has definitely improved by using this training aid.

(my scores are worked out as follows:

Peformance - it has made a significant improvement to my game.

Quality - It is well made and does the job intended.

Value - Overpriced for what it is, but taking the cost on face value and improvement I have made, the value is good.
