Strengths: Very stylish but that's about all. In fact that is hat attracted me to them, that and the fact that I believed at the time that Sunderland were of good reputation.
Weaknesses: Design and construction not up to scratch and certainly not reflected in the price.
The suit I have is not British made at all. The labels quite clearly state that it was made in the Far East, although the design may still have been done in the UK.
Sunderland waterproofs used to be of high design quality and build (Sunderland Classics circa 1997), but like a lot of the cheaper companies, they have resorted to replacing fasteners from press studs to Velcro. This causes a problem with the lining of the jacket if you do not ensure that the Velcro on the flap of the trouser pockets is not in place. The lining in my jacket has prematurely worn and frayed as a result and Sunderland have responded by denying any responsibility of a design fault.
At £160+ for the jacket, you don't expect this. You certainly would not expect to have to make sure that you are "all in place" when you are in and out of your pockets whilst you are trying to concentrate on your golf and it is chucking it down with rain!
Sunderland are clearly not very good at customer care!
Overall: I regret buying my set - I wish I had bought Galvin Green. I can't afford it for a while - Sunderland wouldn't give me my money back. They wouldn't even replace like for like or a repair, so I am extremely disappointed. I would not buy a Sunderland garment again and I would not recommend them, I am really put off.
Strengths: Superb waterproof Goretex jacket with what appears to be rubberised zips. Played in some serious rain a couple of weeks ago and it kept me dry - no leaks. Also reasonably windproof.
Weaknesses: None
Overall: Got mine reduced in the AGD sale and also as a birthday present so it didn't cost me a penny! Reasonably expensive but excellent quality and come with 3 year guarantee.
Strengths: Comfortable, warm, silent in use, stylish, distintive, and it keeps you dry when it rains. Had a few cheaper jackets in the past, but this time decided to treat myself to something a bit better. Went for the Red one to stand out from the crowd. I feel really smart now in my Sunday four-ball, they All look a bit scruffy next to me!
Weaknesses: None really- just the price. It aint cheap!
Overall: Must be a best buy and its British made! You cannot say that about much in your bag these days! Looking forward to a few years of warm dry winter golf- and watching others freeze or get wet!! I think to tone it down next time I`ll buy a black one. Good bye cheap jackets forever!!
