'Inspires Confidence'
Strengths:
Very forgiving. Well balanced. Light.
Weaknesses:
None that I've found so far.
Overall:
I tried a few drivers out as I wanted something special to muller the ball down the fairway with. Being a 15 handicapper, I also wanted something a bit forgiving. I tried a Titleist 983k, a Cobra 400SZ, and an R540 XD.

I didn't like the titleist from the start. It just didn't "feel" good and I didn't hit good shots with it. The Cobra's were fine, but the R540 XD really stood out. The balance of the club was amazing. I was told that this club was an "upgrade" to the Burner 860 and it turned out to be true.

The pro-shop also gave me an R580 XD to try, but I found that the huge head was a bit too big - somewhat unweildy. The 580 also uses the 65 gram MAS shaft, whereas the 540 uses a lighter 55 gram MAS shaft.

The 12 degree also helps me as it puts less sidespin on the ball, and distance isn't really sacrificed - weekend just gone I hit a drive 390 yards, although it was wind assisted ;)

I would recommend this club to all intermediary players, as it is VERY forgiving. Some swings that felt bad turned out to be straight shots that went 200 yards. Which was nice.

Overall, IT JUST FEELS GOOD. :)

'SITS PRETTY, LONG, LIGHT AND FORGIVING.'
Strengths:
Head size looks compact for a 400cc model.
Lightweight and sits beautifully at address.
I have found this club very long landing in uncharted areas of the fairway! The club is also very forgiving on off centre hits going a good distance of the toe/heel, it won't stop a slice though!
I also found the regular shaft stiffer than my previous YS-6, which gives the club a more solid feel.
My 9.5 degree model hits it on a fairly low trajectory with good roll.
Weaknesses:
People always slate TM grips, I have had no problems with this one unlike those on earlier 500 series clubs.
I can find no weaknesses currently.
Overall:
Top class club which you can get at a bargain price on ebay (~£130), highly recommended.

'GREAT DRIVER'
Strengths:
Sits well behind the ball, the head profile isn't overly large but gives the feeling of forgiveness. Hits the ball a long way!
Weaknesses:
None I've found so far.
Overall:
Bought my model with graphalloy prolite stiff shaft off ebay for £90 - total bargain!! When ball is struck from centre gives a middling penetrating ball flight that I like. Off centre hits appear to go reasonably well too, this is a very forgiving club. Overall - very pleased.

'GOOD DISTANCE, VERY FORGIVING'
Strengths:
Distance is great. Used several drivers before. Among them Callaway BB II. I hit the r580XD (S-shaft) carry about 25 meters further. The feeling is very and the club is very forgiving.
Weaknesses:
At first i've hit very poorly. I did not tee the ball high enough. There is no guide with the club that this very necessary.
Overall:
Yesterday i went to the golfclub where i sometimes take lessons from the local pro. He advised me to tee up the ball very high. I needed also to change my swing a little bit (my right shoulder a little bit lower). Then i did something the pro had not seen before: i've the (drivingrange)ball straight over the fence (220 meters further, 2 meters high).
After that i went to the first hole and i've hit the ball straight 280 meters (in not so good weatherconditions).

'LONG AND LOUD!'
Strengths:
Distance, forgiveness, cool head cover and shaft.
Weaknesses:
Grip has 'slimey' feel. Unlike the old 300 series and regular R500 series there's no groove in top of head shape to line the ball up, just the logo. Build quality (See below).
Overall:
Excellent performance but concerns on build quality. I'm now on my 2nd R580XD due to the weight cartridge coming loose at the rear of the club. My previous 360R cracked in the face too, I wonder if this has anything to do with Taylormade heads being manufactured in China?

'THE BEST !!!!!'
Strengths:
Massive distance, straighter shots.
Weaknesses:
Why oh why 6 weeks after I buy a R580 do they bring this beast out.
Overall:
I paid £100 and an ERC 11 for my R580 and just paid £120 more for the XD but it is money well spent. I hit 5 balls R580 with a fade and swapped to the XD and hit 5 straight and even slight draw !! The heel weight stops a fade.
