'GOOD ON LOOKS, GOOD ON VALUE GOOD OFF THE TEE'
Strengths:
I got this as part of the package which saw me buy the Dd5 driver with matching fairway metal for £180. I've also seen these available for as little as £60. And I have to say it does the job: the deep face makes it an excellent choice off the tee when, like me, you are prone to skying fairway metals. In terms of length, it's good but not outstanding; typical (tee) strikes tend to run out to about 210 on current soggy fairways. That said, I caught one perfectly last round and, on a hard fairway with a slight following wind I had a 50 yard pitch left on a 320 yd par 4. The forgiveness of the club is solid - particularly in terms of vertical rather than lateral mishits, and like all the new Wilson range, it looks fantastic.
Weaknesses:
I do struggle to hit this off the deck, though I must admit, a 3 wood from the fairway has never been my strength. Nonetheless the deep face - which makes the club so usable off the tee - doesn't help here. I tend to use the club almost entirely from the tee, as I play on a course which isn't long but where OB comes into play on 8/9 of the holes, which makes a 3 wood a sensible choice to get the ball into play.
Overall:
If you're looking for a good-looking, good value 3 wood to use mainly off the tee I don't think you can go far wrong here. If you prefer to use your 3 metal as more of an all-rounder, I'd look at something lower profile.
